She was amazing! I had GA so I was right up front. She was super cute and interacted with the crowd rly wonderfully. It made me emotional to see her play Can't Hold Us Down, a song released when "feminism" was def a dirty word and not as normalized in pop culture as it is now. It just felt rly inclusive. At one point while she was backstage doing an outfit change she had a black male dancer doing some rly awesome choreo reminiscent of drag ball dancing and it was cool that she highlighted him and the other dancers like that. Then she had so much female empowerment stuff going on it just reminded me of why she's such a strong person who I admire greatly. She also played several songs from my second fave album of hers aka the one that arguably destroyed her career aka Bionic so that made my night. She also played Your Body which was v exciting for me because it was her lead single off Lotus and she only performed it televised once, so I'd never gotten to see her do it.

I think I just dig Vegas residencies in general because the artists seem more comfortable on the stage since it's the same setup and setting every night. She seemed a lot more energized and comfortable than when I saw her on a regular tour last year.

I haven't really listened to her since I checked out her like first album when I was in high school, but need to check her music out again.

I've always sort of looked down at Vegas residencies as something for "waning in the spotlight" musicians, but thats partly because I really don't like Vegas and hate every time I;m there for work, so maybe I should judge so hard.

 

Is that a euphemism for sex?

 

Her catalog isn't for the faint of heart. Sis oversings like mad but has such an empowering discography

You know I always thought that about residencies too until Britney did hers. I think they have the benefit of being able to have a more elaborate stage setup since they don't have to move it on tour every night, and the artist feels more comfortable since they're not doing constant traveling. I'm not the typical Vegas demo but I do enjoy the warmth and food options! I also love that u can just like.. do u and wear whatever u want and u blend into the crowd. My town is a lot more conservative. Def wouldn't like move here or anything tho!

Haha, well I'll at least give it a listen, doesn;'t really cost me anything to do so. :P

I think the residency for Britney was a good thing, so I think that's softened my view on it a little. But any place that keeps Carrot Top around isn't awesome. True, you are invisible and I don't mind that. It's just that I never get to go outside when I'm there, it's always like underground tunnels to the conference centers, so the smell and everything exhausts me. But some of it's fine, I suppose.

 

Her album Stripped is her best

I usually go to Vegas like once a year or every few years because artists I enjoy tend to skip my area and play there, but I def plan on branching out soon. Like may as well just go to California tbh cause the flight is about the same distance! Vegas is just an odd place. Total self esteem crusher lol. It's perfect for ppl watching tho

Everyone comes to the Bay Area! Most thankfully to SF proper, but some go to like San Jose or Berkeley. So much better than when I lived in AZ, which still gets most artists, tbh.
