    SPOILERS

THIS IS A SPOILER Fleck gets on Robert De Niro's talk show with the audience thinking he's going to kill himself after telling a joke. Instead, he kills De Niro and is arrested. There's big protests in the street because there's a "Rich Vs. Poor" narrative throughout, with all of the working class wearing clown masks because The Joker killed three rich Wayne Enterprise guys. They run an ambulance right into the cop car and pull Arthur out and raise him above their heads on top of the cop car and he starts dancing, like he does throughout the movie. Then it cuts to some type of mental ward where he's talking to a case worker. He starts laughing and she asks what's funny, it cuts to young Bruce standing in the middle of his dead parents in the alley (We once again have to see Thomas and Martha get murdered). He says it's a joke that she wouldn't get and he starts quoting a song. Then he's escorted back to his cell when he runs away from his supervisor and we see them chasing each other - leaving us to wonder whether or not he actually killed De Niro's character and all that other stuff happened or that he imagined it like he does throughout the movie.[/spoilers]

I think there is a great movie in here somewhere, but this isn’t it. A good portion of it was enjoyable and think it’s worth a watch for Joaquin alone. But I have a very hard time believing that the majority of society would rally behind a murderer simply because those murdered were...rich??? It’s just incredibly silly for a movie that is trying to take itself so seriously. I dunno, it was alright.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

man this movie sucked! what an absolute waste of Joaquin, Zazie and pretty much everyone in the cast

whoever itt said it was basically the Misery Porn skit from 30 Rock without the self-awareness: spot on

    beautiful and chequered, the end

The whole anti fascist movement “Plot line” of this film is so sloppy that outside of a couple throw away lines it never makes it clear how it connects to the jokers actions.

Honestly, there's a part where he (minor spoiler) shoots the Wayne Enterprise guys and one gets away, so he hunts him down and shoots him in either the head or the chest and then goes somewhere to do a ceremonial dance. That really made me think that A) This movie is on his side and B) This can't be good for people that like The Joker. For anyone feeling unease seeing it in the theater, that really exacerbated it for me.

This was a really well shot mess. We talked a lot about Phillips not having the chops to direct this and I definitely think that take holds up. The whole thing feels aimless and it juggles some serious themes that Phillips just doesn’t know what to do with.

I also thought that while Phoenix was good this is nowhere near the award worthy performance that it was made out to be during the early buzz.

    Major-ish spoiler below:
After spending the whole press cycle swearing up and down that this was supposed to have as little of a Batman connection as possible and that initially they didn’t want Thomas Wayne in it, I thought the whole Bruce thing was super shoed in and I actually groaned when I realized that the Waynes were about to get killed again

wonder if any dimension of phoenixs oscar buzz is just the film communitys want to give him an award after the master and gladiator etc. late career oscars seems to be a thing from time to time.

Joaquin was not very good in this movie. He’s a good actor but so much of his performance in this movie is unnecessary actor bullshit. Turns out when your character has a real ethos it really helps a performance and when they don’t, it’s really hard to find the connective tissue moment to moment
