Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Zack Snyder, March 25th, 2016) Movie • Page 15

  1. Yeah, that's what I assumed as well. Probably just cause of 300. I was thinking about the erotism of superhero movies the other day, watching clips from Guardians when it's just Chris Pratt basically flexing for the camera (which after seeing him as Andy in Parks and Rec still cracks me up every time). It's probably more a reflection on hyper-masculinity and the (maybe evolutionary?) draw society has to the warrior. I think part of that was why I found some of the gender issues discussed with Deadpool interesting and how they didn't hide from his pansexuality.

Now if only Snyder was capable of even a shred of nuance, restraint, or introspection — let alone humanity. Bleh.

@Jason Tate, we get it, you hate Snyder. Just stop watching his films.

    ;-)

  3. Always been one of those things that just gets kinda handwaved away in all comics. Cause once one of them could be there immediately it's like ... yo, Oliver, call Barry to just deal with this. I also think it's been an issue for Marvel, because once you push the "danger" to the extremes they do in the "team up movies" they have to try and top it for just one "hero" in the standalone movies. It also leads to a weird normalization of how powerful each of the heroes is, and then they kind of reset for the standalone so they don't appear that powerful when they're fighting smaller enemies.

  4. I do enjoy the vindication after everyone hated on me when I was pissed he did Watchmen.

There is definitely an across the board sort of eroticism that appeals to across the board. Also, it is just the lack of subtlety. To be strong, muscles are compulsory. Why not have Superman show his strength by struggling with an actual moral dilemma?

Snyder says he wants the Fountainhead to be his next movie. It makes sense, because I don't think the actually cares about he characters humanity. Ha.

  6. Because that would take skill as a writer or director.

Ugh. There are certain people I just know I wouldn't like or get along with in real life ... he definitely seems like one of them.

I'd love to see a Superman film by Ava DuVernay, where he struggles to understand the plight of the marginalized peoples in Metropolis.

This is why I always scoff when people say he's too strong. I like that he's physically nearly unstoppable, but his biggest fight is to inspire hope, which fists don't do.

I wish DC would let Paul Dini craft its cinematic universe. He has/had such a good handle on the characters he dealt with.

  9. I was thinking about that the other day as well, someone that oversees everything and is able to help guide the direction. I think Dini is currently working on that Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. Now I'm down a Wikipedia rabbit hole looking at like Bruce Timm and wishing.

Not completely relevant but I love that, to me, the Wonder Woman theme is the most battle theme like music in the entire movie. It's in your face and loud and suspenseful and exciting. And I love hearing that as the sonic foundation for a movie that is otherwise very much hypermasculine.

The first time we saw Batfleck in the suit, one guy started clapping and the guy next to me said under his breath "please clap". When Wonder Woman came out everyone went bananas. From then through the end the theater was very engaged and then the minute Eisenberg's snot started running down his face and into his mouth I could physically feel everyone get taken out of the movie immediately. Which is a real shame because I thought the final act was the most successful part of the movie. Bums me out (obviously because I haven't shut up about it) that something as dumb as a poor editing choice broke apart all the tension.

I really liked this. Blew away my expectations, which weren't high to begin with, and were tempered when the reviews started to surface.

The dialog was sparse because the plot was thin, and some things didn't make much sense (like Luthor sending Bruce sinister notes to make him mad at Superman?). But the action was great, the casting was great, the music was amazing, and everything looked awesome. All said, I think I like this more than most of the Marvel movies, considerably more than MoS, and probably more than at least TDKR out of that series.

I'm actually really happy with this and excited about what's to come for this franchise.

I really want to make a status about how, since Superman died in a movie released on Good Friday, he should come back on Sunday, but thanks to spoiler culture, I can't.

I enjoyed this but it had a ton of issues.

Please just give me a Ben solo film.

^ Unless the superhero is Spider-Man. Then everyone panics and jumps ship.

(I know this has new things to offer that ASM2 didn't, so it makes sense. But I'm not gonna stop being bitter about it.)

  21. One thing that's been bugging me is how they ruined the WW reveal. That should never have been in trailers. Same with the nightmare sequence. (Which could have been cut from the movie too probably.)

Yes the nightmare sequence was nonsense. Although I did love seeing Batman in desert gear. Reminded me of all the weird-suit Batman action figures I had growing up

Also, what was the deal at the end of that? Was that Flash warning him about Superman? Was that still a dream?
