Balthazar was awful, haha. I booked it on opentable and made a note saying it was our celebratory dinner, that I was proposing hours before, etc. They called to confirm the day before and I said to them again: I am proposing hours before dinner, please give us one of your more private tables, and anything you can do to help us celebrate would be really appreciated.

We show up. They did nothing to acknowledge our engagement. Didn't even mention it. We had one of the worst tables in the restaurant. We each ordered a $45 steak entree and they were tough and dry. Just really cheap cuts of meat. Oysters were not very fresh. Best part of the meal was my frisee salad and her onion soup. Our dessert was over-bruleed so it tasted really bitter. The ambiance was amazing, and I bought a super expensive bottle of wine to celebrate. But there was no attention to detail paid and I didn't even finish my entree. I was fuming by the time we left and I wanted to say something to the manager, but Nicole was insistent that I didn't, so we ended up having a disagreement at the end of our meal, which was really unfortunate. However, our uber driver who picked us up was the perfect antidote to our meal. He didn't stop talking about how Nicole was now my elevator who was going to take me up to the next level in life haha.

I ripped them apart on opentable and then on facebook too, haha. I am not one to do that, but I was furious. Then I had some asshole comment on my facebook review and said "it's one of the cheaper bistros in NY, it's not overpriced, and the food is amazing. you must not be used to paying for expensive food in scranton." I wanted to comment and tell him off or say that one of our hamilton tickets cost more than our meal there or fuck you, but I decided to be mature and simply delete his response haha.

I'm normally very against it but this calls for drastic measures

anytime someone now talks about a bad restaurant experience theyve had i just can't picture anything else but Dennis in that episode of always sunny where he's on THE WOBBLIEST CHAIR IN PHILADELPHIA

 

that was basically me by the end of the meal. I looked at like 300 restaurants in new york before picking that one and went to every length to make sure they would help us celebrate and they didn't. It was absolutely insulting.

Okay phew I was going to say I'm generally against being mean to service workers

 

Oh I don't mean being mean to the specific service people who didn't treat Ken (outside of just criticizing the establishment itself) just to the random facebook commenter

Ugh I'm so sorry how horrible! The service is supposed to be a part of the experience at places like that so that's just awful. I don't blame you for wanting to say something, especially since you had been very clear since the beginning. They did not do right by you. I'm glad everything else went well though.

Thanks! It was really disappointing, but the rest of the weekend was perfect. So it all worked out in the end.
