Dumb question but one of the local courthouses always has a booth in front of it with religious ppl asking to pray for ppl as they come in and out of the building and they have material to talk about religion. Is that not like... Some separation of church and state issue? I always feel so uncomfortable rushing past them and avoiding eye contact

Separation and church and state is kind of a strange issue because it’s not actually law so much as a general political principle that influences some kinds of laws stronger than others (both in terms of the legal issue and of course the political actors behind it). Like the First Amendment itself says nothing about a person having to push aside their religious views when acting as a gov’t official, it’s solely about not letting the gov’t infringe upon a person’s religious views.

But as to this, if they’re in front of the courthouse then it sounds like they just have a booth on a sidewalk or something? In which case they’re likely not doing anything illegal simply by trying to solicit people who walk by. If they’re closer to being on/in the courthouse property itself then I would imagine there would need to be some more formal arrangements made and someone (the city? County?) would have to agree to it. But again I’m not so sure that *what* they’re promoting would be as much of an issue as *how* they’re promoting it.

Yeah it's a weird setup but def looks like they're on the property to me. I mean obv the court doesn't care cause they're there every week with no trouble but I don't like ppl asking to pray for me every time I come and go for work ugggh

  19. Does anyone here think there’s a chance in hell that Warren and Bernie would run together if it came down to it? Probably not, right?

it honestly doesn't make sense. the venn diagram of "Supports Bernie but will do with Warren" (and vice versa) is too close of a circle. Both of them should pick someone like Stacy Abrams as their VP.
