You Are Invited is such a brilliant satire song. It definitely feels like it was of its time but also very prescient to today. Which I guess could be the mission statement of the whole album

 

i don't even see it as satire though, haha. that song kills me because i feel i'm sort of like that in the song

 

i guess you could see is as just a part of his life and just a weird anecdote, which would certainly add to the concept story of the album, but it always rings as satire to me. this kind of ambiguous letter that just gets you into anywhere you want but then you find its not really for you.

 

another album that borrowed heavily from this album but did it much better and still managed to create a masterpiece all their own: The Future Is Cancelled by Captain, We're Sinking

 

i saw it more of he was able to enjoy the perks the letter gave him and gave him confidence, and then passed it on to the next one to hopefully do the same.

always love how the intro riff to montreal is basically the same as aside lol

 

Listened to E&I yesterday. Realized Spider In The Snow might be my favorite song on it.

 

i like how nonchalant he is after he realizes what the letter can do for him. i also do really like that ending where he gives it to his neighbor.

yeah thats another big influencer on that album, at least as far as melodies and the more poppier moments are concerned.

 

I am also not big on Pinkerton

but el scorcho is the best song

 

i think the topics on Blue are more fun and interesting, but the pure songwriting on Pinkerton is incredible and is what I prefer. but ya El Scorcho is ace

I don't know Rozwell Kid, but I agree.

 

The bridge in El Scorcho really fucks that song up. I hate it, and I don't think I realized that until recently.

This is the only D Plan album I've heard, which should I tackle next?

 

Change is really the only good to great record they have other than E&I
Their earlier stuff is more weird songs like girl o'clock but not as good, though there are some gems throughout (the ice of boston)

 

Girl o'clock is probably my least favorite so mehhhh on that haha. I'll check out change next though
