Every team was shit. The tournament was decided by games whose winners were less shit than the other teams.

 

HOT TAKE: the four semifinalists of the Copa all played better overall tournaments than the four semifinalists of the Euros.

This isn't a thing, nor will it become one.

 

Having a panel of judges decide who deserves to win each game would also solve the instant replay problem. Don't need to stop the match or over turn any calls by the ref during the middle of the game, because if the ref fucks up the judges can take that into account when making their judgement!

 

Bit of a strange tournament this one. No one really shined for more than one match. There were some decent games along the way though. Wales Belgium was pretty special. Iceland burying England was probably great for anyone who wasn't English.

The argument beforehand was that having more teams would lower the quality of the tournament. The overall quality may have been worse, but I don't think it was really having the extra teams which did that specifically. It just seemed like a lot of the usual suspects were kind of crap. How unusual is it for Germany to forget how to score, for instance?

 

I feel like I use the word deserve a lot different to y'all.

 

Ireland and the Netherlands got out of our group with three draws in Italia 90

 

I think England deserved to win the tournament most because our manager was paid the most.

After 90 minutes last night, I thought we should have just abandoned the tournament. Not a single team deserved to win it. Shocking really.


Croatia looked best, then were insipid against Portugal.
England were terrible throughout.
Spain's losses to Italy and Croatia prove they lacked cutting edge.
Poland were unlucky, but never looked convincing to me.
Belgium seemed to be growing into the tournament but their collapse against Wales proves they aren't a team, just a bunch of players.
Italy were also unlucky, but their penalties against Germany were a new level of awful.
Iceland were great, but clearly out of their depth against France.
Wales were brilliant, but don't have enough quality outside the first XI.
Germany were dull, and can't score. No striker.
France didn't know their best shape or XI.
Portugal were the dullest winners I've ever seen, and were one of the worst teams in the whole group stage.

 

if the world was a fair place the final would have been ireland/iceland

 

In the end, Ronaldo probably deserved that. His detirmination to try play through the pain barrier, giving the half time team talk yesterday, stirring up the crowd, and inspirational talks to Moutinho in the Poland penalty shootout and to an injured team mate yesterday all made me... sort of like him?

Man is going to go on to be a manager, and he'll probably be annoyingly good at that too.
