The Drive link I got has the files deleted from it. Whoever gave me it must have gotten rid of them. I’ll take it as a sign to wait to listen again.

Pleasantly surprised with the blink show in Mpls last night. I hadn’t really followed any coverage on the set list so I wasn’t expecting as many Enema songs we got, and they sounded great. Crowd was certainly more into those songs than California and Nine.

My first concert was blink with Bad Religion/Fenix TX as a 13-year old in 98. Last night my friend had to bail on the show last second and I scrambled to find a replacement: my 13-year old brother. Was special to get to see his reaction to a big event like this and reminisce a bit. He was blown away by the spectacle; something that honestly doesn’t register as much to me anymore. Just an all around great experience last night.

Also, Lil Wayne was surprisingly fun. Was absolutely sure I would give zero fucks but he put on a great show. Super digestible like 2-minute versions of his songs that prevented it from getting stale. Crowd was super into it.

I've been a silent believer of "Mark and Tom both need to be in Blink," for years, but that's not to say I haven't been rooting for Mark and Blink's success. I liked California upon release, but mostly because it wasn't a complete disaster, and there were a few tracks I really loved (Cynical, Left Alone, Bored to Death). It also happened to leak while I was on a solo trip abroad, and I listened to the album for the first time when I literally turned a corner and saw a massive mural by the artist who did the album artwork. My feelings pretty quickly soured: why were they singing like they were still 16 years old? why can I hardly even differentiate between Matt and Mark? i actually hate some of these songs and ooooohhhhh, this album has that awful Feldmann sound people talk about. Needless to say, I was excited for Nine, but my expectations were pretty low. They've definitely been surpassed, and after a few listens, I quite like the album. I'm don't think I love it at this point, but overall it's far more cohesive, varied, and interesting. Someone called California "shallow" the other day, and said they didn't know how to describe it until they heard how much better Nine is, and I agree. Feldmann's production is way better here, but I still hate some of the choices they made (the "yeah yeahhh" from Matt in what otherwise is possibly my favorite Blink track since Untitled, "The First Time," comes to mind, and when Ransom explodes, the guitar + drums sound very much like California whereas I wish they were a little crunchier a la The First Time). Matt being in the band finally makes some bit of sense to me, and he's the prominent voice on one of the best songs on the record, and his vocals especially succeed when there's that bit of grittiness in them (plus, the outro to Really Wish I Hated You is one of his greatest moments in this band IMO and I wish there were more of that). They try a lot of new things on this record, and even when they don't work for me (like the verses of Run Away), at least they tried something. It makes California somehow look even safer and less respectable than it was.

On Some Emo Shit reminds me SO MUCH of something I can't place (Menzingers, maybe? I don't know...It'll come to me eventually), and I hope they explore that sound a bit more at some point. Structurally, it just strikes me as something very different for them, and it works.

Anyway, just rambling. I did like the singles more than some people I know, but I'm still pleasantly surprised by this record.

I think that Blink/Bad Religion/Fenix TX tour was actually in 2000/2001, no? The Toronto date of that tour also happened to be my first concert.

Unless those three also did an earlier tour I’m not aware of, in which case carry on lol

ROUGH beginning and idk if it was the recording but it sounded awkward and empty live.

I can't believe some of ya'll are making a top 5 for this album and not including Heaven.

IMO that's their best song since 2003. Then again I think Run Away is the worst song on here and everyone loves that one, so what the hell do I know!

I thought the singles were all pretty underwhelming/boring, so is there any chance at all of me liking this album? All the people saying it's like Untitled are giving me hope, but with the singles I'm not really seeing it.

I think a couple of these songs might be their best since 2003.

I was very lukewarm on all of the singles except Darkside/GD. They’re some of the least interesting songs on here, and even Darkside doesn’t make my top 5. There’s some outstanding songs on here. Highly recommend giving it a listen.

Do you like Darkside? Because I think this is the single which helps paint a better picture of what a lot of the unreleased songs do. I think Heaven and Black Rain are nice surprises, and I like pretty much all the other tracks more than BIOMY and IRWIHY.

    House of Protect Ron.

They work really well as curveball moments contrasting ripper after ripper. I think lifer Blink fans see it as a mistake to release those first. The intention must have been to rope in younger listeners that don't listen to a lot of guitar-based music. Curious if it worked. Or they just hadn't finished the strongest songs at the time BIOMY was released.

  25. I think Matt needs to sing the main parts of the choruses live. Give Mark a chance to take a breather.
