It's nice that AB has a bye week to learn the offense

 

Not smarter than Minshew, who learned how to play football in exactly one week

 

I want to believe in Gardner Minshew. Idk. He did keep the game from being a blowout and made entirely smart decisions (22/25, 1 TD, the INT had bounced off Fournette’s hands).

I just know that context plays a part in this and he’s not gonna have that much success, against a better coverage defense, not playing loose zone coverage to close out a big win.

He threw 90% mostly because he kept the ball underneath the zone, but the one long bomb to DJ Chark & the TD to Westbrook did show that he’s willing to challenge downfield when the opportunity is there so that’s good.

 

I mean, no one knew he would be playing and he's not practicing with the first team. The gameplan is going to change with him as a starter.

 

Minshew got a ton of reps with first team actually. That’s part of why he was ready to step in. Also, Foles got like two series total the whole preseason as well.

 

I'm weirdly optimistic about rolling with Minshew.

 

To be fair most of the 1st team didnt play during preseason

 

Has anyone heard any justification for that field goal last night? I still can't rationalize that decision.

 

It’s just surprising that we went down to a 6th round rookie from an Air Raid offense (so no experience under center) and if anything he was the reason why we somewhat stayed in the game, not at all the reason we lost. His footwork and composure under pressure is very encouraging

That play where he evaded like four hits was massively impressive and something most NFL starters couldnt do.

That's all I've come up with so far. Just wondering if there's something i'm missing.

 

I mean, it’s been reported that Marrone is glad they focused so much on Minshew this camp and preseason because unlike other backup QB situations he didn’t feel like he had to abridge his playbook. That’s definitely an advantage for Minshew coming in

 

The preseason should honestly only be backups. Like, you know your starters can play. Why wouldn’t you focus on depth exclusively when the games don’t matter? Who cares if your third stringers get blown out by a team who wants to risk their best talent getting hurt? That’ll just help them understand how far they have to come to be able to fill in for an injured starter anyway.

 

Yup. Jags played it smart with preseason I think. It should be depth chart battles only

 

I'm pretty sure last year was the only year minshew played in that style of offense, I don't think east Carolina or nmcc does.

 

ECU plays in a dumb offense too. NMCC is....who cares

 

Tomlin said they kicked the field goal so the offense would have something to feel positive about.

 

Eh, they're not totally the same though. ECU runs some elements of pro style with their no huddle rpo stuff, mike leach does well... mike leachy things.

 

Gotta give Boswell some confidence about the other 15 games.
