Lana has always seemed out of touch to me. I'm not surprised in the least by any of this.

I love her music, but she's definitely not someone I'd call relatable.

So tell me something awesome Supporter

Given the information in the earlier conversations, not surprising to see this kind of response to a piece like that, but still disappointing

It would be so much better if she just stopped trying to engage like this. She comes across so poorly.

  19. What I don't get is why she took so much offense to someone saying she has a persona. Of course she does. Every artist does. It doesn't mean it's wholly inauthentic. But hit dogs holler I guess.

The review was overall complimentary. Drink some water, Lana. Take a nap. It's gonna be okay.

It's very fortunate for Lou Reed's reputation (among others) that social media never existed in their time.

I know her having a brand that's strong and iconic is a selling point

  22. imagine going from Lizzy Grant to Lana Del Rey and not thinking that's about brand and persona development

I *hope* all these artists have personas or they must be the most exhausting people to ever have existed (possible)

In fairness though, I doubt they're more sensitive than they used to be to criticism. It's just way too easy for them to show it now. You had to try harder to throw a temper tantrum before social media.

*edited because grammar isn't my strong suit today

I know I'm basically just defending her in full stan mode at this point but I just also think you can't look at her reaction to something like this without factoring in what she went through at the start of her career. I think artists don't put on personas as much as they show a filtered piece of their larger whole, and so when they open up to reveal more, I'm sure it doesn't feel great to have people say "oh ya see it was all just an act before". Still it was uncalled for for her to attack the way she did. Even if she felt compelled to address it, she could've done it in a way that opened a dialogue rather than say "don't call yourself a fan", especially when the piece overall read as very positive.

I do think this trend of artists having massively successful (esp cricitcally) albums and then getting really bent out of shape over like one slightly less than positive remark is... weird to say the least.

  24. I mean, I generally think this is true. But I can tell you from personal experience (going to college with someone before a major label gets their hands on them is wild) it isn't a given.

But I also don't think that's what the critic said. And there's some appropriation aspects that make skepticism about her earlier career super valid, at least from a woc standpoint. (not what I wanna talk about mind you, just providing context.) I definitely understand reactions seeming over the top because they were responding to old stimuli (anyone with PTSD does) but as you get to, I don't think unleashing the hordes on a critic just doing their job is the right response. Especially when that critic didn't actually go in on you.

Doesn't change the music. I haven't listened to the new album yet, and I plan to. But this was just... yikes.

I make art, I know how sensitive it is. I've wanted to yell and scream and tell someone they were wrong. But I figure if I can take a deep breath and let it go, someone with millions of dollars ought to be able to.

True it just exacerbates it, and I also totally get it I also want everyone to love me who doesn't
