I can't really blame her on the Israel-Palestine stuff because I had little to no understanding of the situation myself at the time that show was announced. She did make the right choice in the end.

As for the comments on not being republican vs. liberal, ya I mean that sounds like a classic privileged stance that somehow if it weren't for Trump we could all have our political opinions and everything would be fine. I'm sure she doesn't fully grasp the harm the republican party was doing before this, and probably also comes from a republican family (her dad is like some rich mogul type right?) Not an excuse for her, but I'm not surprised she feels that way. What I do know is that she has stood up to Trump, and she has spoken against gun violence, and seems to fall on the left in the stances she takes, if not in the words she uses. I'm also skeptical of how interviews cut these quotes.

I'm not really trying to defend her as much as that sounds, as much as I guess explaining why it doesn't really cause me personally to view her in a negative light. I also don't think it's necessary to call her a complete fucking idiot.

No I think we expect celebrities to be more informed than normal people but why would they, not defending but I know lots of people who say the same thing and they're not in a bubble

This is something I absolutely agree with. I feel like she calls herself "in the middle" in a sense of like "everyone love everyone" altruism or whatever, which while flawed seems to line up with what she has shown rather than actually being "in the middle" of the political spectrum.

But I also recognize that as a rich white person in your 30s you should try to know that at least to a level where you won't misspeak to a bunch of impressionable fans so idk. Maybe she does believe centrist ideals, idk.

In my opinion this comment is so unnecessarily divisive. She didn't say she's a conservative. She's been extremely outspoken against the Trump administration, and obviously leans left on social issues at the very least.

"Gross?" While obviously there are many disgusting things about the Republican party, if she wants to identify as a moderate (or with no party at all) that's her right to do so. Unless she is spewing or specifically backing some racist/homophobic/truly problematic bullshit then I could care less about identifying 100% with the artists I listen to on economic policies, etc.

This is an incredibly generous way to look at it. It's amazing that you're happy to excuse her for legitimising Israel's brutal oppression of the Palestinian people, and for her implied support of at least some of the Republican Party's policy platform, but me calling her a complete fucking idiot is a step too far and you just have to call me out on it. Lol, get your priorities right!

Lana Del Rey is a multi-millionaire with different class interests to you and I. Just because she makes some cool music that you like doesn't mean that she shouldn't be held accountable for the dumb shit she says. Maybe you wouldn't have such an apathetic response to her actions if it was your family having their home smashed down by the Israeli Defence Forces? Or maybe if it was your child who had been struck in the head with a tear gas canister and had died instantly?

She was fine with legitimising Israel by performing there. The only reason she didn't end up actually performing is because of the backlash. So yes, she was happy to specifically back an apartheid regime for a quick buck, pretty fucking problematic I'd say.

You said "unless she is spewing specifically backing some racist/homophobic/truly problematic bullshit" you're happy to support her. I told you that she was happy to back some racist truly problematic bullshit, but apparently Palestine doesn't matter to you.

Also, leaning left on social issues is totally meaningless unless you also lean left on economic ones. They are incontrovertibly intertwined.

I do understand what you’re saying, but I’m just saying I genuinely believe she was likely ignorant to what’sgoing on, like many many Americans are, including myself at the time her show was announced. The United States is literally indoctrinated from youth to believe that Israel are the good guys. Period. It takes time to unlearn that, and I don’t hold it against her for not having a fully formed opinion at the time she had to address it. If she had persisted and still held the show, I’d have a different attitude towards it but I believe that was a situation of her having to learn about something in real time. I guess the point I’m making is I can’t hold her to a higher standard than I was at myself at that time.

I think she eventually pulled out of doing the show in Israel because of the backlash. It was bad PR. Also, she clearly had at least some understanding of a conflict there to come out with this shit:

Every time I listen to The greatest it feels like the song that should have been last on the album. Has a great finale feel

I mean I haven't deep dived into what happened with Lana and Israel but from what's been posted in here it appears that she spoke on a topic she wasn't educated in. She shouldn't speak on what she doesn't know, especially with a large platform. I wish more public figures would just admit they don't know and not speak to it. They have access to a wealth of knowledge and even have assistants and a team who can compile the info for them to go over. It's frustrating more don't take advantage of that and it's inexcusable. I don't expect every celeb to know about everything but like if u don't know then don't speak on it. Her intentions are fairly irrelevant to that. Glad she made the right choice in the end and hopefully she educated herself on it afterwards

It's just not true that she wasn't educated on the Israel/Palestine situation. Read her statement:

It seems doubtful that she's learned anything or grown from the situation when less than a week ago she basically said that she doesn't think the Republican Party is all that bad.

Yeah the idea that "nobody is asking" these celebrities what they think is...just patently incorrect? Taylor Swift was hounded and flogged in the press for not talking about politics. So really, it's not even enough to get asked. You should volunteer your takes/stances now.

Not that this really matters, but do you all consider this her 5th or 6th album? I'm just curious because I keep hearing it both ways in different reviews and stuff. To me its:

    0. AKA LG
    1. BTD
    1a. Paradise
    2. UV
    3. HM
    4. L4L

This was ok. Some standouts but felt too long and a lot blended together. Was never huge on her so this didn’t sway me either way

I honestly never know when people call it the 6th if they are counting Lizzy Grant or Paradise, but either way I agree they are wrong.

Idk that reads as uneducated to me. Maybe privileged and ignorant and dumb would be more apt but I mean I think her privilege and inability to see why it's not all just kumbaya hand holding rainbows is uneducated.

damn I was gonna come in here and say I really really dig this album, didn't realize she's been doing some stuff. Yea she's living in some type of fairytale with those views which I guess I shouldn't be super surprised considering her music? But unfortunate.
