Yeah I love Mike Tomlin, it's unbelievable what he's been able to do. Imagine swapping the 2010 decade Steelers with the 2010 decade Bengals and what we would see from each side of players.

    The officials beat him sadly.

People overrate rings. Sports get so flukey, especially in single games, yeah it’s great to minimize mistakes and take advantage of opponents mistakes so that the inevitable flukiness of sports weighs less, but Colin Kaepernick was probably a better quarterback than Joe Flacco and one has had an entire well-paid career of being mediocre while the other is out of the league. Hell, the 49ers fell apart because they didn’t want to pay Harbaugh like a “Super Bowl winning coach” since he didn’t win a Super Bowl, but he made it to within like two plays going differently of winning one. If those plays went just slightly differently and the 49ers beat the Ravens, is he suddenly a better coach? Is Kaepernick better and Flacco worse? I don’t think so. Is Mike Shanahan a GOAT coach? He has two rings. Is he a better coach than Andy Reid? Is John Elway a better quarterback than Dan Marino? Are the 2007 Patriots a worse team than the 2011 Giants? No.

I get that consistency matters and being able to win when it counts is, to some degree, a skill. But so much is out of a single player or coach’s control that they can’t determine too much. Some, sure. But it’s measuring one game versus a whole career

does it make sense now why they were trying for Clowney?

Charles Harris was a beast in the preseason but I still am not sold on him. Wilkins and Godchaux should be a pretty good DT combo though.

I don't think rings are the only thing that matters for evaluating individual players but when you look at the scope of a team's season or a certain era and think "were they successful?" I certainly think it goes back to rings. I don't think about that 49ers stretch pre-Seahawks SB much at all

my upset of the week is Titans over Browns. at the very least i feel like it will be close for a half or three quarters and everyone will lose their minds over how bad the Browns are gonna be and everyone's gonna wanna jump off the ship / poke fun at them for losing or playing tough against the Titans. feels like the perfect situation since most of Cleveland has already crowned them off-season champions or AFC runner-ups.

  11. I was all for them getting Clowney. I just didn’t like trading away Tunsil. It could work out but it’s risky.

This is BONKERS imo. They might be 3rd best in their division. The difference being their spread of elite talent as well as coaching.

    sorry matt

I think the Falcons get to the Super Bowl, get a massive, unsurmountable lead, and blow it. It's kinda their thing.

Panthers defense is deeper than the Saints, that's really it. Saints are probably above them overall maybe

I think the Saints are better than the Panthers at QB, OL, skill position group, and in the secondary. I'll take the Panthers front seven though.

With that being said, I think the Panthers roster is better than I see a lot of outlets giving them credit for. I think they have the second most complete roster in the division.

Sure but they aren’t indicative of all that much on their own when looking at an individual. What does Peyton Manning’s Broncos ring tell you about him? Looking at Belichek’s six or whatever rings says a lot over the course of time, but making fun of the Goff extension because he lost to the Belichek/Brady Patriots in the Super Bowl is silly.

Making fun of the Goff extension because McVay is reading the defense to him is a little funny though
