It’s clearly satire but it doesn’t matter if it’s fake or not, people will run with it because Twitter is a cesspool.

One funny recurring talking point for comic book movies that I've already seen for this is that it "transcends being a comic book movie."

Feel like that wording is typically used by big fans of comic book movies, & not fans of *real cinema* or whatever. Usually describes a certain aesthetic more than anything; usually feels like an appeal for legitimacy that I just don't care about, lol.

Though, I do at least appreciate this more optimistic take on that relationship between *cinema* & comic book movie fandom (even if I doubt it'll actually happen that often):

The last time they tried to say a superhero movie was more than a superhero movie was the Dark Knight, but once people seriously started to examine its themes and political message and saw how lacking it was, they started saying it was unfair to hold a superhero movie up to that standard.

The idea that these people are going to move on to something like M or The King of Comedy is pretty silly. There are so many of these superhero movies now that they don't even have to watch anything else. We are so oversaturated with mega-blockbusters that you don't need to wade outside of that pool into something that might make you uncomfortable or make you try something new. It is McDonald's.

I remember Logan being called “more than a superhero movie” as a way to try to get intellectual cinephiles to watch it.

I was honored to be in the same theater as one and applauded him for lowering himself to my level and purchasing a ticket for a superhero movie.

films becoming more and more populist is a problem. I agree that film should have a doorway, not a wall, but the current climate is making it harder and harder for present-day Truffauts or Godards to make unique movies, there are fewer and fewer opportunities for movies like that as the midbudget and independent movies are dying out, or corporations like Disney consolidate studios and homogenize filmmaking

My enjoyment of this movie will have nothing to do with them. Either I like it or I don’t.

Movies don't exist in a vacuum. It would be unfair to ever blame a piece of media directly on causing an act of violence or something sinister, but it is also impossible to say they don't have an influence. Dictators understood the value of movies years ago.

Wall Street was a criticism of the vultures in the stock exchange, but yuppies wanted to be Gordon Gekko. Scarface was a warning about how crime doesn't pay, but people idolize Tony Montana. Fight Club was a criticism of some of the nihilistic impulses of men, but people take Tyler Durden (who is literally not even real in the context of the movie) seriously as some sort of philosopher. If a lot of the most absurd 4chan anime Nazis see themselves in this character, it is a problem, even if it wasn't the intent of the filmmaker.

until a movie doesn't get the prestige they thought it would so they dump it on streaming and never release it haha, unfortunately no studios really care about movies

What movie was this? I don’t doubt all the studios are in it for the money, I’ve just been impressed by how original A24’s output has been. It does make me wonder how many masterpieces we’ll never get to see.

  16. What's this about Guy Fawkes? All I remember about the movie is Nat's headshave cry.

While I don't completely agree w/ Hill's tweets, I don't think you can call the journey he described as "pretty silly" when it's literally the journey he went on, verbatim. And what others have experienced. Like I said in my post, I don't know how often it actually will happen... But, completely writing it off is to ignore reality.

  20. Is Anonymous bad? I thought they were just hackers. I guess doxxing is bad, but they usually target bad people?

Sorry, just trying to understand how the Guy Fawkes symbolism is treated the same as the Tyler Durden and Scarface that @Morrissey mentioned.

Pan’s Labyrinth got a 22 minute standing ovation back in 2006 at Cannes. It’s definitely possible, hell I was part of one that lasted at least 2 minutes for Endgame back in April...and that was just a local theater lol

You’re not a grump, it is very dumb.

Unless you’re at like a festival/premiere/special screening where the filmmakers or cast are present.
