Didn't know Todd Phillips did Due Date, Old School and Project X. Those movies were hilarious.

 

Well, Old School was great, at least at the time. Can't rec Due Date

 

I haven't seen due date since like 2011 or 2012 but thought it was hilarious at the time. Don't remember a ton of it.

Is this odd for reviews to be out this far before the release?

 

Not really no

 

A majority of the positive reviews I've seen to seem "This is a fantastic movie, but Todd Phillips directed it so I need to sneak in some shade so I can reasonably bail when this breaks bad."

 

Festival reviews often come out months before release

 

I got a news alert notification saying the consensus was the best Batman cinematic universe movie since The Dark Knight

 

I think I got the same one (THR), I'd be amazed if this is better than Lego Batman or TDKR

There’s a fundamental difference between telling a story like this in the form of a dingy, misanthropic art film like “Taxi Driver” and telling it in the universal language of a superhero movie that’s going to open in multiplexes the world over. In this context, that story can’t help but feel aspirational. And Phillips is the first person to be seduced by its pull — to be helplessly pulled along by an innate desire to see Joker at the height of his power.

I think this hits the nail on the head as far as this thread's recent conversations.

 

I tried to watch TDKR a few nights ago and couldn’t make it through it so...maybe?

 

Man, for its 86% on RT, almost all of the positive reviews seem to be five stars. Hyped.

That said, it feels weird to see a film about a psychopath poised to be one of the biggest films of the year. Especially since we just had ANOTHER shooting. I feel like this will be either the most important movie of the year or the most irresponsible. Or maybe both.

 

TDKR was pretty bad so it's not a very high bar to clear imo.

 

Apparently people are saying it's Phoenix's Oscar to lose right now, although we all know how he feels about the Oscars so who knows

 

I hope I enjoy the movie and by the looks of the recent trailer, I think I will.

I don’t give a shit if edgelord incels or whatever try to adopt this as “their” movie or not. It can still be enjoyable if idiots obsess over it.

 

Obvious bait comment but there will be some people who shouldn’t be allowed outside that will actually see the film that way. The “this is my Black Panther” sadly didn’t give it away because it’s plausible that 4chan will hold that narrative but the “intellectual” Batman v Superman comment is a meme. No way that person is serious.
