Wow.

 

Yeah I still give Mark the benefit of the doubt about Pinegrove and was honestly shocked he took it down + respected him for doing so, but there's no excuse re: XXX. The reporting on his documented history of violence against both women and the LGBTQ community is very much out there and readily accessible, including the fact that he outright confessed to most of it. This is inexcusable.

 

Yeah I don't know about the Pinegrove thing but there's a huge difference between hearing a song you like and tweeting it versus actually working with someone and indelibly associating your band with them forever without doing the mildest bit of due diligence. Supposing he didn't know who XXX was before Travis (I assume) suggested it, he really just went along without even a quick google or glancing at a wiki page? NOBODY in the whole blink operation looked into him? Inexcusable is the word.

 

And let's be real, if they said no to this project they can afford to miss out on the money at this point in the band's career. I don't know, the whole thing really, really sucks.

 

You’re about in the same headspace as I am. It’s hard to wrap your head around, and I truly still don’t get it.

 

Re: the Pinegrove thing, it's more about the fact that there's no way Mark knew the full context surrounding the band's attempt at a comeback which, to anyone not clued in literally to this very site and specific people on Twitter, seemed like it was handled well. Not so much about the fact that all he did was tweeting about a song he liked. Because with a platform like Mark's, that kind of tweet carries a lot of weight.

Coincidentally the weight afforded to Mark's platform is also why the XXX collab is even more egregious. It means something when an established and very famous artist like Mark Hoppus or Travis Barker collaborate with someone.

And Travis is the worst offender by far, has been for years. Even before XXX died. He's forever linked his brand to XXX at this point and honestly I'm ashamed at myself for not dropping the band sooner than I did because of it.

 

Mark has Neck Deep, Matt has Asia Argento, and Travis has a slew of others. None of them have a great track record and everyone here seems to still be supporting them, so I'm not sure what's changing by adding one more shitty person to the list? Not condoning anything, just trying to point out that everyone here condemning blink seemingly hasn't done anything to avoid supporting them after all of the others, so what's different now?

(I should point out that I'm by no means an expert on what XXX has or hasn't done or how much worse it could be than the other examples I used)

When Mark did the Neck Deep song was that before or after stuff with that band went down? I truly don't know, I don't even know what that band did to be honest with you. I'm really not educated when it comes to what band is troubled or why, I usually get that information from this site and it's usually in passing or if it hits the news like Michael Jackson or R Kelly for example.

For me what's different is the actual band name is being used and is now associated with X and now the band will forever be linked to a beyond shady/questionable character in X. Maybe it's wrong or hypocritical (is that the right word I'm looking for?) of me not to have taken a step back and judge when Mark, Matt or Travis have done outside of the band earlier. That's on me for not being more informed.

 

Am I misremembering that Travis was asked about the controversy surrounding working with xxx right in front of Mark and Matt in that interview with Zane Lowe a while back?

 

I didn’t watch that but I would not be surprised if Travis just said some shit like “maaaan have some respect for the dead bro he’s dead and gone and it’s over”.

 

if i remember right, i can recall Travis saying something like "i only knew him as a musician, not personally, so i didn't see any of his personal life, we just worked together." but i also don't know if he was referring to this guy or not.

 

Sounds familiar. I think he also said something how X was nice to his kids maybe? I could be wrong though.

Lot of teens love him. I had more than a few students with his hoodie on last year. Anywhere from urban POC kids to suburban white girls. I have no idea who he is/his music but isn;t he like "Emo rap" or whatever?

 

Enjoyed the video and the BTS video was a nice addition to watch after as well.
