This is cool. It sounds like they basically made another batch of so-so "California Deluxe Version" type songs at first, haha. I'm excited to hear this album.

I'm glad we're not getting California Part 2 (or Part 3 if you're counting the Deluxe as a separate album) which was the biggest fear on a follow up album. Good to see that Matt is more comfortable in the band now that he's been a member for 4 (!!!) years and seeing him taking the lead of writing songs. Not to say he wasn't with California but I don't remember reading stories about him during the writing process.

Maybe it's just me but whenever I read about Black Rain the Sekrets' "Falling Like Rain" immediately starts playing in my head.

Y'all are wild. It wasn't the whole article, first sentence literally says "Key takeaways". "Happy Days" is not a happy song lyrically haha. That girl doing the floss dance in the video was grinning so hard and it warmed my heart. Excited for the video, excited for the album, excited to see them play at Riot Fest, stoked stoked stoked.

I clicked that link that blink just texted out and literally the first comment I see is "no more blink without tom thats it" lmao

 

That preview was pretty nice. Interesting to hear them talk about cooling off on the first batch of songs, which explains why they took so long to put this thing out after we thought they were done.

I know 311 went through a very similar process with Voyager recently; they wrote a batch of songs with Feldmann and wanted to release them immediately, but after they sat on them for a bit they thought, "Eh, let's rethink this". Then they worked with another producer for nine more before scrapping all but four Feldmann tracks.

Kind of interesting because that's generally how I've felt about all of his work with both bands. I love almost all of California, but none of the songs ever got better over time...some of them just kind of wore out their welcome. Generally, everything I listen to has some "growers", but that's not the case with his work for whatever reason.

 

Voyager turned out fantastic

 

I’d still like to hear those omitted songs. Sometimes bands don’t use great songs. I get some need to be sidelined if they don’t work for the album, or if they are songs the band doesn’t want to play for 20 years. But trickle a few as b-sides or deluxe works for me.

 

Hoping blink does something similar. More off the wall stuff throughout the album and then keep the cream of the Feldmann crop for the catchy stuff. (I know Black Rain is apparently a darker Feldmann track, but still).

Feldmann still has a co-write on 11/15 songs, so not sure how much they actually went away from him.

Well it didn’t further the song in my mind, they looked like they were having fun and we all need a little more fun here.

 

Yeah, I liked that video a lot! But god damn seeing those dance moves everywhere has gotten so annoying, haha. But the kids were cute and obviously having a blast, so it made me smile. This video was definitely better than the AVA one though, yeah? haha!
