  1. What do you mean by “the thread wins”? This whole post reads like a woefully tone deaf comprehension of what’s happening here. These criticisms of Blink are more than valid and deserve to be met with a better response than “we stopped the song” or whatever from the people that continue to support the band seemingly no matter what they do.

Question — if this is whole “tRy HaRdEr” thing is something you genuinely want to see happen, why don’t you lead the way? The onus of calling for change is not on the people already attempting to enact it, and telling those people that they’re not doing enough is incredibly disingenuous at best, completely patronizing at worst.

Edit: Damn, @Kiana with the buzzer beater

    Let it run Supporter

This is the second time in recent memory where someone tried to call out people speaking about problematic artists by saying that they support this site. That’s a very silly argument so please don’t use it anymore. Jason has burned bridges with some of the bigger names in the scene because of how strongly he feels about these situations. I have seen him act and call out countless shitty, abusive artists time and time again. That’s why I will continue to support him and not listen to a bad faith argument by a blink fan annoyed that people are calling them shitty for being shitty. Guilting the members of this community who choose to support Jason and the space that he has provided for us is such a bad look. Grow up

Now I Know This World Isn’t Spinning Just For Me Prestigious

    I don’t normally post in these type of situations because how heated they get and I usually don’t feel like I can contribute much to the situation. But I have seen some posts on the last few pages that inspired me to say my peace and leave it at that;

Blink-182 is my favorite band, I love them, and I’m sure that’s clearly evident. But even with them being my favorite band, I can and will admit and say that them working with such a gross artist is really disappointing. I don’t condone it, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and it’s a really shit bad choice on their part. It’s not right, and I will vehemently not support that collaboration one bit. I also think that situations like this SHOULD be talked about. I dont think that everyone should just go about business as Usual when this type of thing comes up when it’s done civilly. That’s not only a weird thing to do, it’s flat out wrong. I will never condone shutting down a discussion that is educating people or vocalizing in support of being better.

I’ve said my two cents, and I hope everyone has a good evening.

    Prestigious Prestigious

Why are there always people defending shitty men on this website? Instead of taking time defending shitty men, how about looking at their actions and realizing why they are shitty and calling them out for it? Or maybe listen to the tons of other bands that aren't filled with shitty men that absolutely deserve more support. All the dudes in Blink are privileged white folks, they sure as hell don't need you to defend them. This thread is always on the front page of the music forum, and obviously I understand they are well liked here which is why, but maybe some of you defenders could, I dunno, take some time and promote the tons of other bands/musicians on here who only get a few pages, if that, worth of attention/commentary and who aren't shitty people.

Admittedly, people defending shitty men on this website usually end up acknowledging & or at least being educated about that shitty behavior.

Unlike Twitter & Reddit, where your support of problematic artists can pretty much go unchecked if you stay in the right circles and ignore/block the right people.

Ladies and gentlemen, can we please wait with all these comments until the band will make an official announcement? You can also try to stop this collaboration from being released by creating a petition, reaching out directly to Mark, Travis and Matt, band's management etc.

If there's one thing I'll never get is Mark's description of TOYPAJ over the years. This comment here takes the cake.

I find the album really weak overall (especially lyrically) but the whole "it was darker and heavier than Enema" is so weird.

Wait, what did Matt do that is shitty? I'm not on par with that situation.

Working with XXXTentacion is a really bad look. Not good at all.

EDIT: Accounts Story also mentions that a source who has heard the album thinks that Ransom, Pin The Grenade, No Heart To Speak Of are going to be fan favorites.

And there are reportedly a few tracks where Matt has a dominant role, but probably no Matt-only songs

He has been supportive of someone (I can't remember her name) that has been accused of assaulting a minor if I remember correctly. He also wore a Chicago PD t shirt on a social media post that caused a big uproar.

Sounds like a superfan of the band. Would really want to hear a take from someone with a different taste. Definitely appreciate any review at this point though. 25 days away is a tough wait.

    Harder. Faster. Louder.

This seems to be the underlying mantra for Blink-182’s latest release NINE, presumably named after its chronological placement in the band’s discography (if you count 1994’s Buddha amongst them).

Now I’d love to be able to spew up an honest and unbiased opinion on NINE but alas, I cannot. Blink is a band that has helped shape the very fibres of my soul ever since they kickflip-backside-boardslid onto the commercial pop-punk scene in 1999 as a highly addictive gateway drug for millions of TRL-viewing backward cappers. But that’s enough about me.

NINE is harder, faster, and louder than not only the band’s most current release, California (2016), but also almost everything else Blink-182 has ever put out — not to mention anything else that is currently pulsing on pop-punk airwaves. Yet NINE is still distinctly and defiantly “Blink”.

From humble beginnings in San Diego to packed-out stadium tours across the globe, Blink-182 has become synonymous with breakneck tempos, astonishingly bang-stupid guitar hooks and revved-up teenage angst. In 2019, not much has changed. NINE is an ode to both the band’s colourful legacy as well as Millennial culture itself.

On first listen-through, stand-out cuts include “Black Rain”, “Darkside”, “Ransom”, “The First Time” and “Hungover You”. At this stage in the game, both Mark Hoppus and my all-time stick-wielding hero Travis Barker have truly honed and perfected their pop-punk proclivities, and it fucking shows, but what really blew my mind was how effortlessly second lead vocalist Matt Skiba has melded his vocal hooks into Blink’s post-Delonge era sound.

Another notable characteristic on NINE is the track duration across the board. There surely can’t be a track with a runtime longer than 2.5 minutes on the entire thing (save for the closer) and I get the feeling this was implemented intentionally to appease an audience with a rapidly diminishing attention span.

Still, it’s not just an album aimed at Millennials. As they themselves claim in their 50-second punk slapper “Generational Divide”, Blink-182 is not the generational divide. If anything they’re the bridge between Gen Millenn and Gen Z.

Overall, NINE is a triumph for contemporary pop-punk music, offering Blink fans both old and new exactly what they might want out of a Blink album: a damn good time, and then some. I (and I cannot stress this enough) could not recommend this album enough.

NINE drops on the 20th of September. Set your reminders now.
Blink-182’s upcoming release, NINE, is an Ode Gen Millen

I mean, there are a bunch of tracks that are 3 plus minutes, including the first single. Maybe he is being metaphorical but it’s a weird statement to make.

    Things have changed.

It's almost like that's probably not a real review, with zero specifics beyond things anyone can Google.

  20. That's what I'm assuming too. Like they wanted to be the first review so they did a generic review of "the album" based off of what they've already heard, and then slapped a couple random titles to songs we haven't heard yet to make it sound credible and like they've actually listened to the whole thing. Or they have heard it all and it's just a mega fan who loves literally everything they breathe on.

I'm not going to really pay any attention to reviews for this until I can hear it myself.

Yo check out this new review of NINE that I just found.

"blink-182 is a band that supports, and condones the actions of, a violent homophobe and confessed serial abuser of women. NINE releases September 20, 2019."

So, even if fans were successful in stopping the song's release...does that make it less shitty that the band - at one point - thought it would be a good idea to collaborate with - and support - XXX?

  23. this thread being on the front page of the music forum is in no way “being promoted.” It’s an active thread. Bump those other threads, maybe? I’m sure we all understand how the threads work, right?

If you skate you know a kickflip front board is the superior trick so therefore that “review” is not credible at all.

  25. I skimmed the review so I missed the skate ref but I prefer kickflip backside tail over most things. It’s so pretty.
