It makes it impossible for them to resign anyone besides Durant and Curry unless people take pay cuts. Which is possible, but Iguodala and Livingston may want to get another big contract, especially if they've just won 2 rings in 3 years. Who knows.

This is also all moot if the new CBA changes rules significantly - and I'd bet on the max contract rules changing.

i'm writing a book, leave me alone.

how does the luxury tax come into play? couldn't the Warriors just say "fuck it" and decide to pay whatever luxury tax they owe at season's end like the Cavs are doing? Warriors definitely gonna make a lot of money this year to pay for it.

  6. The NBA cap is so complicated. So many rules. I'm always confused when reading how teams maneuver through the cap.

They could, but the luxury tax projection for next year is $122M, so it's not a factor quite yet. Again, it will depend on what Livingston and Iggy want in their next contracts. My guess is that Iggy will be working with the team on a discount. The Warriors will have full bird rights on Iggy and Livingston, so if they want to pay full market price they could.

The Windhorst piece is good info, but the narrative that it will prevent GWS from keeping their core is not true yet. The projected cap number needs to decrease to a point where GSW can no longer offer Durant the full 10-year vet 35% max deal.

Technically, GSW will have full bird rights on Iggy and Livingston. Windhorst's piece assumes they don't want to potentially push above the $122M tax apron, which may or may not be true.

In regards to the CBA, every owner and player is happy despite the players getting decreased to 50% of basketball related income (BRI). Exploding cable contracts for the most part are making everyone happy in the league. I expect both sides (players and owners/league) to opt out this year and negotiate some finer points like mid level (MLE) amounts and some of the finer nuances of the current CBA, while keeping the major framework and structure in place.

I feel like Livingston is going to want a handsome payday. He had some prime years robbed from him. I don't think he'd take a discount.

Yea, especially missing out on the pay raise... It'll be interesting to see what they want to do

Hopefully my thinking one or both taking a discount being a possibility wasn't the only thing that was taken from my posts. I do feel like this team is different. Iggy was in on the Durant meeting so I think they will find a way to keep him. Even if Iggy and Livingston seek their payday, which they have earned, the Warriors could do it.

Did we not just watch them snag Zaza for pennies and convince West to not only delay retirement, but not sign with the Ohio team? Ian Clark probably could have fetched more than the minimum as well. I'd rather take a chance on Clark than say, Temple or something. They will get some fine players to sign up with them, especially if they need a ring. I'd take my chances with their core at least.

I just hope the Cavs are able to stay the course. This coming year will be the first year for the repeater tax rate. We'll see if Gilbert flinches.

Ben Simmons is struggling to score in Summer League so far, but god damn his passing is unreal.
