Song rips leads into Anna nicely. The production issues are much more noticeable than in Anna, specially vocals. Will Yip definitely going to hold this record back.l

Also a bummer to have the opener released as a single.

Production on first listen was jarring trying to figure out what Greg was saying. It’s getting easier once I start picking up words and melody, but yeah, really rough production vocally.

I think my second listen I caught the lyrics really easily, but yeah first listen was a little tough. I'm also generally bad at catching lyrics the first few listens anyways.

Not sure why the vocal effect is so pronounced this time around, I feel like his voice was so crisp, clean and brilliant on ATP.

just adding my distaste for production. I just don't get it. How can anyone think this sounds good. Menzingers, knuckpuck...amazing bands with oddddddddddd/gross production choices.

    Youtube link.

Commentary: I dig this song a lot more than Anna on first listen. Instrumentally, the production sounds great. I'm still coming around on the reverb effect on Greg's vocals though...it's just off-putting right away. Which is sad because these two songs are a better one-two punch than Telling Lies and Thick as Thieves to me.

I just hope the vocal production doesn't bring this album down. I had some renewed faith in Yip after how great ATP sounded in that department, but now I'm not so sure.

Will was on a good run of better sounding records recently but this is definitely a regression for his production. Same bag of tricks as his early records.

Still I won’t freak out until @Jason Tate comes in with full impressions and says the production sucks throughout

  8. sounds like Greg is singing from the other end of a hallway

nothing else bothers me though, like how booming the drums are. good song

I enjoy this song, but yeah I really hope this is the last album they do produced by Yip. Honestly holds their songs back IMO

This song is awesome but I agree the vocal production is a small drawback

I'll never understand what this site thinks is so bad about Will Yip's production

Yip is my second favorite producer, this has nothing to do with what I think of him, but there’s obviously some sort of vocal effect on both of these songs.. it could be an effect that the band wanted who knows.

Overkill on vocal reverb / effects and terrible sounding drums on some of his older albums. It’s pretty simple, really.

Some bands, Yips production works great. This isn't one of them for me. Like the two La Dispute albums he's done, I think he did a fantastic job on them. Suits more of his style IMO

Personally don't think that the vocal effects make this sound bad at all. Feels like some people see he has produced and album and then instantly decide that the production is bad. Like they don't even give him a chance

There's been plenty of albums of his I've enjoyed and thought his production was solid. I just think this and ATP were lacking production-wise

I think ATP’s production is light years ahead of this album so far though. To the point where I didn’t know they used Yip again.

Yip's albums have always sounded great instrumentally to me, but drowning Greg's vocals and lyrics in effects just hurts their sound. It works for certain bands, but not the Menzos IMO.

idk with this one i think it'll still be fun to blast. just a little hard to hear when you're trying to keep a conservative volume on your headphones at work lol

I haven’t listened to the large majority of Yip’s catalogue and have no strong opinions on his work, but I agree with those saying the vocal effect on Greg’s voice isn’t working for me here.

I will say Anna sounded much better in my car than it did over headphones.
