I always thought these were super cool. It's too bad Minidisc was pretty immediately obsolete after it came out.

Anyway, I used to rock this bad boy:

 

My first portable MP3 player was the iPhone 4.

I had one of these or something like it, it was fine. Got one of the iPods that looks like the phones do later and then just got an iPhone in college.

 

Those British tabloids really can’t stand that Harry married a half black American woman, like this is a solid example of that.

 

First MP3 player I ever had was a 3rd gen iPod Nano, I loved the fuck outta that thing. Probably why I’ve been on Team iPhone for almost ten years

 

They were super cool for like a second and then the Minidisc was obsolete right after like you said. Missed its mark by a few years, if it did I could have totally see it taking off.

Edit: Looks like Sony wayyyy underestimated how quickly CD-R's would drop in price and that started it's downturn and then it got hit by the iPod.
