Curious why you like that its shorter? I loved the longer track listing from LYE.

  3. Only listened to few unreleased songs atm, it's going to be quite a polarizing album.

I like Lift Your Existence a lot, but it also runs a little longer than I usually want it to, especially with how dense it is. I also think it feels like it repeats the same ideas a few times more than it needs to. I consider it a great record with a little bit of fat on it.

EDIT: Also, I'm really curious: how does everyone think Phoenix III compares to Phoenix I & II from the last record?

It's uncompromisingly chaotic but also so mellow and catchy at times. but when it hits, it hits hard. The drumming isn't even fair. The atmosphere some of these songs create is unreal

never listened to these dudes before today fwiw

I don't think any song will ever compare to Phoenix I, II, but III definitely has some shining moments. I think this album is a grower, and not so much a shower. It's like that really spicy meal you love but it hurts to eat, then it takes an hour to digest before you feel better again. It's like that, in a good way.

Given all the great bands that have clearly influenced this album, I feel like I should like this.

    But I don't.

I think I'm liking this more than Lift Your Existence so far. Then again, it could be the fact that it's new and exciting.

I definitely love the opening track. That and Phoenix 3 are probably my favorite songs on here.

Love this record so fucking much. Bad news is I can't listen to just one song, gotta be the whole album experience. Just doesn't sound as good in chunks

Finally got to listen to this album and it's definitely a different beast than LYE. Nowhere near as catchy, but it has some good grooves like Panic and Pull Your Heart Out. Surprised I haven't seen that song being mentioned

  14. I like it but don't love it. Not sure if I'll keep going back to it or not.

Just reminding y'all this album is the best. "Strange Graves" is the best Deftones song they never wrote. Can practically hear Chino singing that one

ive only just gotten to this album now - oops - but its super cool. really weird and atmospheric. this reminds me of thursday in parts, especially the spoken word parts and strange graves

  18. I dig this, but I don't listen to it often enough.

were you a fan of their other full length and EP?

Never listened to either. Only really heard of them just before this album came out and was excited because of the bands they were being compared to sound-wise, all bands that I love (Tool, The Cure, Deftones, At The Drive In).

I've just not managed to get into this record (yet).

If I had to sum up all of their songs into one singular song that would get you ready for everything else, I would suggest listening to the final track on Lift Your Existence called "Phoenix: I. Rising / II. Falling"

It encapsulates everything that I could want into one 10-minute song.

    Cool, I'll check it out.

Late to the game, but I love when a band reinvigorates a genre I generally have moved away from, making it less a genre specific band/album but something more. This band has done that with their new LP.

For real. There's some serious Worship & Tribute type shit going on in this album. I hate when people throw around "this band deserves to be huge" so loosely but.... this band deserves to be huge, lol
