I didn't know there was a link in there when I copied and pasted it. Besides that oversight, anything else to add?

Whenever I see some man say "debate me" to AOC, I always see it as, "Will you go out on a date with me?"

    [tw: sexual assault]

Not sure why you wouldn't expect like minded people to be part of a community. That's how communities form, and in turn, end up acting as sort of a self-selecting entity. I would, however, take issue with the idea that it's monolithic. That's not true at all. There's plenty of debate and discussion on social and political views on this forum. I see, or participate in, them all the time.

See, this is the part where you lose me ... when you start throwing terms like "keyboard warrior culture" out while you're arguing online yourself in giant blocks of text is just silly. First, you're painting everyone with the "you're all garbage humans beings" mentality while ignoring that in the very conversation this started you had multiple women talking to you and explaining things to you and not one of them called you a garbage human being. That you choose to ignore that instead to focus on a vocal minority is odd to me. That this somehow gets described as "authoritarian" is even weirder. As someone that's spent quite a bit of time reading the accountability thread, and hell, even just seeing what's transpired the past two days around the conversation around the Mitski situation, I am confident in my understanding of the majority community dynamics around these topics.

But that's simply not true. Many, many, many people have made posts "outside" and often talk with people and are educated or end up seeing why what they said was harmful or hurtful. The people that don't -- that double down on these views and make no effort, or even attempt, at seeing why they're getting pushback -- will see what you're describing. Minimizing sexual assault, publicly, and multiple times, isn't just falling "marginally outside" -- it's very far outside.

To take it to the extreme, if what you want to do is sit around and "just discuss music" of a rapist or abuser, then, no, this is not the community for you. I don't believe you can just discuss the music without also looking at the person making the music. They are intertwined and to separate them you lose part of the art itself and most of the time are just doing it to let yourself off the hook.

I read the thread, and that you think that's the consensus viewpoint is baffling to me. It was explained, directly to you, multiple times how this wasn't the case. Acting from a position of questioning, trying to gain more information, and seeing a pattern of behavior is not the same as instantly canceling someone nor is it the same as coming up with some weird formula to say there is a 20% chance someone was raped, and that's not enough for it to change your behavior around an artist.

That you see this as vindication and not emblematic of a larger issue is telling to me. Most music publications report on every single artist normally because they're underpaid people that don't care about any of this trying to hit pageview quotas. Why do you think Alt Press continues to post about As I Lay Dying over, and over, and over again? Or every single detail of the baby-rapist's case? Because it's profitable to them. Their coverage of this shit doesn't make it normal, it simply normalizes things I think should be looked at as abnormal.

You keep pretending there weren't calm, rational, participants talking to you in the other thread ... why? Instead of the multiple women that responded to you, explained the issues, you're chosen to focus on a few other people instead. This, alongside my belief that I think the idea of having a "calm discussion" about a rape allegation is a weird tone policing tactic that is often used to shut out the voices we should probably be listening to the most.

You've made no actual argument for this. You've instead made a declaration that ignores the conversations that happened in order to draw a conclusion not based in fact, but based in what you wanted to say anyway. And, the underlaying attitude of starting from a premise of "believing survivors of sexual assault" may actually be relatively "fringe" - but that does not make it wrong.

What difference do you think there is in your qualification of "I only think there's a 20% chance this person was raped" versus the person who brushes it off entirely? Is there a material difference in this statement? What general purpose does making your mathematical calculus serve to the topic at hand or the generalized conversation? How do you think someone that was assaulted would feel reading a man online calculating out the probability of what happened to them as a percentage? Do you think that helps the situation or makes it worse when people see this is how others treat accusations against the powerful?

And my point is that I don't think you're good at estimating percentages or what viewpoints are represented by what part of the population.

  8. Soo ... you copy and pasted some drivel from some comment section or Reddit or something to me? That's maybe worse. (I read Cordeiro statement when he posted it, and the reason's it's flawed.)

Anyway, so yeah ... Breitbart is a sexist, white nationalist, website. Therefore, I'll gladly add: Fuck Breitbart.

And then I'll add "men and women should be paid equally" in for good measure. And that the USSF President has shown himself to be a bad faith actor in this entire situation.

How the fuck does an 18 year old afford all that? That’s wild to me, guns and ammo are not cheap and for a teenager to have like 25 guns and 10K rounds of ammo is insane. I have so many questions.
