yeah this is all unbelievably upsetting

This is super weird

 

I don’t want to post it here because it feels gross to broadcast it, but the OP made an updated post that goes into more detail and makes some incredibly serious claims. Like, implicating Mitski’s family and the OP’s family. I’m still reeling here and don’t want to turn extremely serious allegations into a spectacle, but my head is genuinely spinning.

 

It’s incredibly brave for a survivor to come forth with their story of assault and I commend them for being able to come forward against someone who has more influence and power than they do.

 

the storyline she gave is hard to make sense of and the hardest part im having with it so these things occur and then her dad, who she claims was strict, randomly asked if she wanted to go see her in concert???..even though she also claims that she was a relatively unknown artist at the time so not many people knew of her so her dad knowing her...im just so confused. im trying to make sense of this and if im wrong about this train of thought then tell me but what?!!?!?

 

The last thing I want to do is disbelieve the victim and the second-to-last thing I want to do is make this about me, but all of this is really stressing me out right now because after the BN shit went down I started listening to Mitski and found comfort in her music in part because she is Asian like me and I had someone new to look up to, so if any of this is true I don't know what I'm gonna do

 

I want to say once and simply that mental illness does not disqualify any of this, but that it does mean it’s an entirely different situation than what we’re used to dealing with in this scene. To me, that person’s entire blog reads as someone who is very sick telling a story they believe to be true. This is also a vastly different and much more serious claim that could involve the literal FBI. We should wait until there is more information. There are a lot of conflicting details in the person’s post re: their gender, age, location, etc. I think they should take some time and collect themselves, because a lot of people do want the truth of the situation and while some people are looking to make excuses, many people are trying to honestly reckon with it.

 

Thank you for saying this. I am in no way attempting to discredit or harbor suspicion against a victim of abuse, but I genuinely believe there is reason to wait and see the fallout from this situation

 

seeing the sentiment that "yall are just saying wait and see because its someone you like this time" on twitter which is frustrating considering id assume most if not all of us have cut out previous favs when problematic behavior arose in the past. this situation is a "wait and see" situation if there ever was one, regardless if you're a fan or not.

 

There’s such a huge difference between a man being accused of sexting a teenage girl and a woman being indicted as a pedophile sex ring leader and I do wish people on twitter would acknowledge that because it’s...real.

I’m glad we have this space where we know, for the most part, that intentions are good and that we are trying to speak with care and respect. We are doing the responsible thing and not just brushing it under the table. That’s the best we can do till more info comes out.

That tumblr post is updating live btw- someone on Reddit said that Mitski’s manager liked a tweet saying the situation could be related to Globelamp, who I think we discussed earlier in this thread.

 

This troubles me greatly, not just because it’s Mitski but because I cannot see a way forward here. All allegations of abuse are extremely serious and terrible, but an allegation that a person is not only an abuser but is also running or participating in a child sex trafficking ring is almost in another stratosphere - if true, it would mean Mitski is not only a sociopath, but also a complete monster for lack of a better word. And I guess what bothers me most is that we will never know, because if it is true she’s hardly going to come out and say so (and if she is the type of person who can do such a thing then she is by nature highly skilled at manipulating people), and if, hypothetically, it was a story created falsely or otherwise (and I’m not saying it is), we will probably never know that either. So how the hell does a person navigate this when the sum-total of the information we have now is quite likely all we’re ever going to get?

 

These are DMs from the alleged victim to the person who was compiling all of the information in that tumblr post. This is all very troubling.

 

i dont see how we would never know if this is false or not. this could shake out in many different ways. the way forward is to wait and see how this plays out, that's all there is to it.

 

I'm so upset right now I can't sleep, I just keep refreshing Twitter hoping for anything conclusive. Maybe not the healthiest thing to do. I did see a post claiming to be screenshots of the accuser admitting it's fake, but the thought crossed my mind that screenshots of dms can be so easily photoshopped. I don't want to post it here if it ends up being false. I don't know what to believe.

 

Not that it really matters but... I just saw her live this Friday. I don't know what to feel right now.

If you are to the stage of reaching out to journalists to tell your story, you have to be prepared to offer proof and a solid story. My friend Autumn experienced this and she had to be very thoroughly fact checked before anyone could print anything about Front Porch Step. The more I read from the accuser, the more it feels like someone having a drug-induced psychotic break (based on her Reddit posts about having one before). Again, I don’t doubt that she firmly believes this happened and very much needs help- but too many things are not adding up.

I don't know much about the FBI but what are the chances that if you told the FBI your parents were sex trafficking you that they would send you back home to your parents?
