I'll buy tickets to the concert once I see a setlist. I'm not paying to hear the same old same old. Gimme some deep cuts and California tracks!

I think their assessment, as in the review itself, is perfectly fair for people with a passing interest in Blink-182.

my point is, Blink/pop-punk fans don't depend on their review for forming an opinion on Blink

the review kind of weirdly "validates" Blink in the world of "serious" music - Blink fans didn't need that, and "serious" music fans didn't get the review they needed to give Blink a chance anno 2016

so it is kind of a gesture towards the emo-revival, punk validation thing that is going on right now, but without concessions

So this album will chart around number 2 in the US?

yeah... some reviews/reviewers are better than others

Ian would have been better equipped to review it, but they obviously didn't let him do it in order to secure "objectivity" or whatevs

I'd argue that's been going on for a long time though, thanks to Ian Cohen.

There are probably some small truths to this. It was strange that the radio singles are majority Mark songs, as you pointed out 8 to 2, yet it seemed like after TOYPAJ came out the record label started to view Tom as the more talented one with his Box Car Racer album and then supposedly backing him when he wanted to break away from the group and go solo (I remember Mark mentioning he was accidently CC'ed on emails from the label to Rick Devoe talking about Tom's solo projects before blink broke up). Although one can argue that if Mark wanted to make a Box Car type album with new band mates the label would have backed him too due to the popularity of blink at the time.

All the albums before TOYPAJ, the majority of the songs seemed like Mark was the one taking the lead but from TOYPAJ it seemed like Tom really wanted to be the front man. Mark even mentioned that the recording process making TOYPAJ was a lot harder and Tom seemed really unhappy during the whole process. I do wonder if Mark and Tom always butted heads in the studio or when it all started.

I'd love for there to be a documentary or book written about blink that was an honest look at the band and what happened behind the scenes etc. I wish Travis' book touched on the break ups more.

I'm happy to see bands that I like getting exposure through "relevant" outlets...

whatever makes them make a bit more coin is good

I meant at the time circa 2001-2002.

  18. I think that having Skiba there is enough to warrant seeing the same songs again
