oh you guys talked about it. i think its insanely obvious bernie spreading his views outweighs the bad of going on a show like rogan.

  3. Why? Bernie fans clearly can be just as susceptible to racism or misogyny as anyone else. Liking Bernie doesn’t mean they’re immune from those other ills. They may not even need their views changed, but instead find validation.

idk, joe rogan obviously has alt right and far right people on his show but that's still just a tiny fraction of his guests and only what some people who listen to rogan are actually interested in. he has large swaths of people from outside the political world on, his show is markedly different from your ben shapiros and dave rubins and etc. his audience is not a lost cause like those audiences are or like fox news's audience is. thats why i find it very, very smart for bernie to tap into that. because joe rogan's way of giving people a platform has benefited the alt right by being so hands off, we may as well get some benefit from it on the left. and again his reach is huge.

I think if you have to keep qualifying things with “yes nazis do listen to his podcast too,” that it’s a good sign you should skip the invite.

I wish Joe Rogan didn't exist.

Mainly because I don't think Joe Rogan is a very persuasive person. The people that come for Bernie are less likely to get into his whole world of podcasts. Its less about Bernie fans being susceptible to toxic ideas, and more about the people spreading those ideas being more steps away than the initial video they're watching. Its possible they'll go down that path but it'll take longer to end up somewhere terrible.

LOL, Rod was the definition of Democratic corruption during Obama’s early tenure as pres and Trump wants to forgive him. His base will totally support him.

  15. That’s where I don’t follow though: We know that those toxic views already exist in leftist politics as well. We are not immune from them.

Sexist asshole: I like Bernie, Bernie is on this show, he must think it’s good and worthy ... an episode later you’re listening to sexist reinforcement guest XYZ.

I see that slippery slope as massively not worth it, and not needed. I think the flaw is in thinking if someone is a fan of Bernie they are “woke” enough to ignore and not be susceptible to things like that. But, we know that’s not true. We know sexist, racist, very damaged people can also exist in leftist politics or just be a fan of Bernie or Warren in general. I suppose that’s why I worry about giving even a small tacit stamp of approval to programs or platforms that end up pushing people toward things I fundamentally disagree with.

(I, for example, would benefit from going on a show like this but my core beliefs would keep me away. I think that is why I am drawn to others that do the same, and why I question how much they actually gain from the interaction.)

I rarely comment on stories like this in here, but this is one of the most depressing things I've seen in a long time. Truly effing sucks what happened to him

All I’ll say to Bernie being on Rogan’s show (much of which I’m sure has already been said here) is that it’s not bad to expose yourself to new voters. Bernie went on there and explained his views and policies. Rogan didn’t throw any “gotcha” questions at him or anything, just let him preach what he believes and what is plans are which is how it should be in these kinds of interviews

I was talking to my boss at work today about it and he says he agrees with Bernie going on because so many people just don’t watch the mainstream media anymore, they don’t watch cable news, instead they watch these talk shows and podcasts. So this is a whole new way to reach voters who you normally don’t get to reach out to.

Again, that's not what I'm saying. Of course there are toxic ideas from individuals in leftist politics, and Bernie fans. These are not unique to the right or politically inactive. I'm saying people who have already established an ideology and political stances are less likely to click that next episode of Joe Rogan. Bernie's episode had 30 mil views, I don't think the next Rogan podcast retains many of those viewers, because he is sort of a blank slate that let Bernie talk. They were there for him and now that they've seen him they'll be gone. I get the legitimizing the platform argument, but this slippery slope one just seems so unlikely.

But people who listen to Rogan every week will now actually have some positive ideas in front of them, that's where I see the benefit.

  23. I know that’s what you’re saying, I’m saying I don’t see how that follows from knowing what exists in leftist politics as well. Why is someone that is sexist or racist but likes Bernie less likely to keep up with a massively popular show? What makes that true? Why are they unique?

But if it retains one, or ten, isn’t that the issue? And in the meantime giving a lot of money to that platform at the same time.

Why participate in the radicalization and monetization **we know is happening** from this kind of program?

  24. I mean this normalization of the Rogan podcast is exactly why I find it so troublesome. This is the exact thinking, this view from nowhere, that is antithetical to my worldview.
