    Trusted

I’d rather have the known star quality player on my team than take a shot on several players who may never be that good in their careers knowing that it’s not easy to find players of that caliber

It's really the timing of the trade that throws/threw me off. You have an immediate top RB in Saquon Barkley, a very good TE in Evan Engram, and a brand new QB in Daniel Jones. Keeping OBJ in with them creates SUCH a good situation for Daniel Jones to learn in once Eli fucks it up. Trading OBJ doesn't seem like it's in his best interest at all.

~$15 million extra per year for 3-4 players isn’t something to sneeze at though. Probably a win-win trade.

again, give me 1 truly elite player vs. 3 league average players (taking RB out of the equation)

Sure, I understand that. But I think it’s not a black and white situation. The three players traded and then $15 million extra per year for 3-4 other players over four years is quite a haul.

with OBJ the giants are still probably a 4 win team this season anyway and those 4 wins will come from saQUADS.

    The rivalry is back on

I think a football team can get away with any one of their 3 recent head-scratching moves (OBJ trade, Daniel Jones as QB of the future, draft RB at #2 overall) and maybe even be better off for it. But the Giants did all 3 so all 3 moves are much worse because of that

I don't see drafting Barkley as a head scratching move. He's legitimately one of the best offensive weapons to come out of college in the last decade. I don't agree with lumping him in with the general sentiments about RB value. He is better than most 1st round RB.

To me it's more head scratching that they can't figure out a way to turn a player like that into more wins.

As far as the OBJ trade... I mean they could've picked better players and then it might have been a good move haha. I definitely don't trade OBJ for Peppers, Lawrence, Ximenes.

Barkley is a great player. Drafting Barkley (whose best years are likely his rookie deal) and then burning it down the very next year is a suspect strategy. Especially when you had the pick to get Darnold and then turn around and take Daniel freaking Jones the next year

I also don't agree that his best years are likely gonna be his rookie deal haha. We had a whole discussion recently where I pointed out the last generation of established RBs were all good in their upper 20s, and the reason that only the real young ones are good lately is because for several years, almost no great RB came out of college (meaning almost none of those guys were good at age 23-24 either, so it's a false parallel when you say they aren't good because they're too old).

Aside from Le'Veon Bell there was a huge drought, and this drought finally ended with Todd Gurley in 2015, who JUST got a contract extension... everyone else after him is still on rookie deals.

I do agree though, that when you have a top 3 WR and a top 3 RB, why the FUCK would you trade EITHER ONE when you're trying to develop a rookie QB? That's just dumb. Jones could have walked into such a great situation. Imo the fact that Eli went 2-14 with those two guys tells me he is DONE and Jones could have seamlessly replaced him if they kept those weapons.

IIRC we looked at that group and found that it was about 50/50 on whether the second contract was going to pay off ;)

I feel like I named more than 16 backs who remained good in their second contract... 50% is a good number anyway, you're telling me 50% of "good enough to start" RB are worth resigning? That would kinda prove my point that people are judging RB too harsh and taking the "RBs are devalued" idea way too far, people seem to believe that less than 2-3% of backs are worth resigning to a big contract

The Giants also renovated their offensive line! IIRC Will Hernandez had some of the best run blocking success in the league last year and they added Zeitler who is an immediate massive upgrade on the right side. I think trading OBJ is the ONLY "blow it up" move they made which is what makes it so suspect to me.

Okay so the AB foot ordeal has been solved right? Like we know what happened, i'm too lazy to see if anyone posted about it.

Absolutely. I’m with you on team elite RBs are not completely worthless.

I also would take Darnold and someone else at 6 this year (Allen?) over Barkley and Jones 11 times out of 10 for this team

If you’re picking at 2, you should not need to draft a QB in the top 10 of the next draft. Especially not when the first draft is much stronger at QB than the second

I agree but it's not a wide gap. I'm not low on Daniel Jones like everyone else is. He maybe didn't win a lot at Duke with a bad team around him, and he doesn't have the top notch arm strength / raw arm talent that most early QB prospects have.

But he's great at throwing with anticipation, makes quality decisions under heavy pressure. These are things that even first round QBs tend to struggle with at the NFL level. He also can run well enough to be a threat on the ground and force teams to gameplan for that.

I could be wrong but y'all always know I'mma be honest about my general opinion. I don't usually change what I think just because the consensus doesn't agree with me, until we've seen some results that support the opposing point. We will see how it plays out once the season starts.

I would never say elite RBs are worthless

What I would say is that RB is the position where its easiest to get by if you don't have a stud

I was not upset that they took Saquon 2nd and I was not (that) upset that they took Jones 6th.

    thank you for listening

Giants could have taken Darnold at 2 and then Chubb at 34 last year

they'd be much better set up for the future if they had done that

  24. Because Madden simulates real life, I'm worried about the Steelers WRs after JuJu because they all stink in Madden.

Actually not that worried. I'm worried about their TE2 situation though. After McDonald it's just a bunch of garbage.

That's actually a real good way of putting it, and I can say I don't necessarily disagree with this particular line of logic

At least if we're talking about "core" positions. A lot of teams get by with bad TE and bad SAM linebackers because they use sub packages a lot, and switch those players out with a nickel corner and a slot receiver more often anyways.
