Random thought: I know to some people may think it's part of the "charm" of the album, but a remaster of Dude Ranch would be great. The album just sounds too muddy. I felt that way even back when I first heard it, but a lot of punk rock records sounded that way back then so I didn't think much of it then.

You seem to have a lot of misplaced anger toward someone who's never done anything negative toward you.

Actually, I like Neighborhoods more than Califronia, I just didn't like the production on it. A user on here put it perfectly a couple weeks ago when he said that blink created this hybrid of their pop-punk sound mixed with a dark stadium rock and that seemed like a logical step. I liked that blink always pushed their boundaries.. I know this song gets a lot of shit, but Up All Night is always a good example of what they were good at while doing things that came out of left field.. This new album has stuff on here that they may not have tried before, but it's still very by the books.

Also, I don't know if this is accurate, but I always thought maybe Mark and Chris Holmes were to blame for the way Neigborhoods sounded, just based off the stuff that Chris has done, and his side project with Mark, Nothing and Nobody, I definitely felt they were responsible for giving it that gloomy sound.

yeah, weird, it seemed more like a 6.5

anyway, nonsense, really nice to have them back

this is what I wish happened:

Tom gets jealous, gives it all, and puts out AVA's best album to date (hey! I like AVA) - not satisfied, returns to Blink and the band records a new album with Tom and Skiba

    and it kills

    LOL

as I said before, it's insane how much hate Tom gets from total strangers - it has to be a mental disorder or something

I was listening to the live album the other day and was thinking that if I were some crazy billionaire I would pay Blink to re-record Dude Ranch with Travis. The live album has the best versions of Dude Ranch songs.

I was always super surprised that everyone allowed Neighborhoods to go to market sounding the way it did. In that respect, I don't think the blame can be placed entirely on Tom.

I think it's easy to blame the entirety of the post-Boxcar/pre-Skiba state of the band on Tom, the truth is everyone probably had a little bit to do with it.

Yea, the live album pretty much trumped the originals on Dude Ranch for me. Considering that a good chunk of that live album was done in a studio anyway, it's likely the best we'll get.

  13. Just so you know, Matt actually does play that lead part in The Poison. The the only thing Matt didn't play on the album were the leads for Sadie. And yes Matt has written songs that Dan sings, and yes Dan has written songs Matt sings. I'm not sure why that really matters, but more times than not the songs Matt sings are the ones he wrote, same thing goes for Dan.

Another Girl, Another Planet is severely underrated IMO.

Well to be fair Tom can't be blamed at all for the final sound before it went out since he wasn't even involved in listening to final mixes. Or maybe that makes him more at fault since he couldn't be bothered? Either way lol. Everyone takes some blame.

I think I need to re-listen to Neighborhoods. I remember thinking the songs were good but the production was bad. I really wish would just remix and remaster that album!

EDIT: It would be really funny if California gave me a new appreciation for Neighborhoods.

    Things have changed.

The guitar tones on Mark's songs on Neighborhoods were awful, probably worse than Tom's live tone.

But you're right, I think all of them are probably responsible – not for THIS split, but for the initial one. Mark was upset over Box Car and grew distrustful of Tom's motives. Then the whole Tom solo album thing and Mark thinking Tom was trying to leave Blink and start a solo career. Tom's back surgery and the pills and him going off the rails. Tom wanting not to tour as much. It just became toxic for everyone.

I hated the majority of the album. Not the sound necessarily, but the actual songs. And since Tom dominated so much of the album, it's easy to view him as a huge part of my dislike of that album. A couple tracks were alright. I thought Up All Night was decent enough.

Maybe I was out and about and I found it the easiest/quickest way to make my disdain known?

Tom quit the band through a third party on that first break up. And the second time too, right? Although he apparently didn't call it "quitting" this time.

That you, while "out and about" felt the need to even comment on your hate for Tom again shows how insane and weird your anger toward him is. Move on, dude.
