I just read that if Dak, Zeke, and Cooper get the same exact contracts as Wentz, Gurley, and OBJ, we’d still have $48 million in cap space next offseason. And that’s without cutting the expected players, Collins, for example.

We’re in fantastic shape as far as cap space goes.

So if this were to happen.....Dak/Zeke/Cooper would account for 64.375M of the projected cap in 2020 (roughly 198M)...or 32.5%.

    That seems....ballsy.

No, it’s not based on flat “overall deal divided by years length” kind of numbers. It’s based on the structuring of how their contracts are hitting the cap. It would come to roughly $41 million this year.

Of course the structuring won’t be exactly the same but even if it’s kind of close to that, there’s still plenty of cap space remaining regardless.

Wait, sorry. I just saw you specified the 2020 cap, not 2019. My bad.

It’s still ballsy due to possibly injuries or backsliding in performance but I’d rather have too much talent on the team and weighing who should or shouldn’t be extended than not.

I looked at the total cap hit percentage this year for all teams when combining their starting QB, RB, and WR and got this:

    Team - Percentage

    1. Colts - 22.99%
    2. Vikings - 22.96%
    3. Chargers - 21.66%
    4. Raiders - 21.55%
    5. Lions - 21.34%
    6. Buccaneers - 21.17%
    7. Packers - 20.26%
    8. Patriots - 20.03%
    9. Seahawks - 19.18%
    10. Falcons - 19.14%
    11. Giants - 19.12%
    12. Bengals - 19.06%
    13. Rams - 17.72%
    14. Titans - 17.38%
    15. Broncos - 17.19%
    16. Redskins - 16.75%
    17. Panthers - 16.42%
    18. Saints - 16.30%
    19. Steelers - 16.10%
    20. 49ers - 15.45%
    21. Jaguars - 15.09%
    22. Browns - 14.60%
    23. Cardinals - 14.55%
    24. Chiefs - 14.04%
    25. Eagles - 13.36%
    26. Texans - 13.27%
    27. Bears - 13.24%
    28. Cowboys - 12.74%
    29. Jets - 12.02%
    30. Bills - 11.35%
    31 Dolphins - 9.29%
    32. Ravens - 6.74%

If I plug in those numbers I mentioned above for Dak/Zeke/Cooper then the Cowboys go from 12.74% to 17.33%, which would take them from 28th to 15th.

    That's still pretty damn good.

I also learned that we're already paying both Zeke and Cooper top five cap hit money this year, so their contracts won't be as drastic of a sea change when it comes to overall cap space each year. We must be playing hardball with the guaranteed money.

It's obvious, but it's Dak's leap from the 4th-round pick money of ~$2 million to ~$8 million that really makes that percentage jump up so many spots. It's over double the difference of what Cooper's hit difference would be.

Damn, that is extremely disappointing. I hope that timeline is accurate.

yeah but what about the next year? What about signing Jaylon SMith, Byron Jones, etc?

the Cowboys are absolutely not in "fantastic" shape cap wise.
