I'll never understand the "there are more deaths caused by (insert random cause of death), so let's do nothing at all to make an effort to reduce the number of gun related deaths" line of reasoning. But, I have to admit, it has been effectively wielded for years to make damn sure no effective gun reform is ever employed. I kind of thought Neil deGrasse Tyson was above that.

I don't want to sound overly cynical here, but, realistically, nothing is actually going to happen regarding any kind of common sense gun reform, right? This is the exact same cycle we have every single time. I still say that if nothing changed after Sandy Hook, we'll have to wait at least another 20-25 years.

Guy I was in Afghanistan with posted this and I responded with, "The way I was treated the first two months I was in Afghanistan." In reality, it was my entire time in the Army, but my god it was bad over there.

With the amount of attention and power that the Parkland kids had after the shooting and nothing significant happened then, you’re probably right.

As long as Mitch still leads the senate, I don’t expect anything.

Before starting college, I had a full-ride offer to attend one of the best private colleges in MN, from a Navy ROTC scholarship (a college that's over $50k a year in tuition), but I ended up turning it down, as it just wasn't the life I wanted. And the idea of dealing with toxic military masculinity all the time for years on end did not seem like something I wanted to put myself through

Also Crenshaw's MAGA following is really mad at him in the replies of that tweet.

There was a guy on Queer Eye who had a medical discharge and because it wasn't visible everyone called him a coward, it was so sad

Its so fucking difficult being a liberal who is pretty outwardly effeminate in the military. These people just crush your psyche for not being super machismo. Its such a weird complex that all of these guys develop. If I wasn't really good at my job in AFG, I know I would have been torn to shreds. Its just good to not have to deal with that shit anymore.

Brian from Street Fight Radio posted that Travis Morrison from the Dismemberment Plan was an Iraq War supporter in 2003 and it put a real damper on my day to read his posts on it lol i think he's apologized for it since, but it highlights one thing for me: a major consequence at the end of the Cold War was that it left a lot of Gen X-ers with completely incoherent worldviews lol it reminds me of DFW simultaneously could sometimes write Marxist-adjacent shit and also vote for Reagan as a way of rebelling against his liberal parents, or all those 90s SNL guys hating suits but also, like, fundraising for Newt Gingrich, etc. etc.
