I've been working in criminal defense for 6 years, and I have never once had a body camera "work" during the course of a suspicious arrest. Literally every single time there's a case like this, the camera mysteriously malfunctions. And it's fucking pathetic.

 

You know, as does everyone else. Regardless of how egregious the conduct, they will not be held accountable. In the Kelly Patrick case, you had nine minutes of video showing the officers beating an unarmed man to death. With Tamir Rice, you saw police mount a curb to pull a drive-by on a child. So, even if you have the impossibly incriminating evidence to overcome the blue line, it's still not enough.

If you're white, it's overwhelmingly likely you'll see no justice in such cases. If you're black, it's a damn near certainty.

 

The video of the man's son breaking down in tears while his mother gives her speech is one of the most painful things I have seen in a long time, probably ever. My heart hurts for that family and, honestly, every single black person in America.

 

I've been reading conflicting reports. Was he unarmed or did he have a legal concealed carry on him? Was he reaching for an officer's gun or was that just an excuse from the officer to justify the shooting?

 

From what I've read, he was armed but was not motioning for the gun and was legally carrying.

I'm sure the 2nd Amendment crowd will rush to his defense seeing as a lawful exercising of his right served to justify his death to the police, it seems.

 

He had a gun on him that much is true, but unless we get clear footage from a better angle (sheesh, body cams would be bloody helpful for that), I'm not buying the he was reaching for it narrative

 

If he didn't have a gun they'd just say he was reaching for the cop's gun

If there wasn't a video that would just be believed point blank

 

He was pinned down. By two armed policemen. In America. In 2016. There is no WAY any black man is reaching for a gun in his situation, just no way...

 

I am speechless after watching that video. Just disgusted.

 

And now they're trotting out his past and is mug shots. They're actually missing the point, which is that A) it's irrelevant and B)the cops had no sense of his history before they murdered him.

 

What, yall don't support racist, power crazed individuals being judge, jury, and executioner and then distorting the facts or outright systematically destroying evidence that wouldn't even be used to hold them accountable anyway?

 

That's the point. What do you do when the image of a life being snuffed out isn't compelling enough to make white people believe you're a human being? What do you do when even discussing the issue, as Jesse Williams did, elicits anger, or the feeling of a slight or the feeling that they are being oppressed, that we are the racist ones for even bringing to attention our deaths? Our deaths are always-already justified before they even occur. To be black, in America, is to be guilty and it is just a matter of the police or a neighborhood watchmen to carry out the fucking sentence.

 

Another video surfaced....it's pretty brutal.

For real here, that second video is fucking horrible and I would advise you seriously consider whether you watch it or not it if the first one upset you. I understand that sometimes things like this need to be seen for certain reasons, but it genuinely made me sick to my stomach.

 

I had to watch it. I had to see what they do to us. Every time.
