September feels extremely far away but it’s already August 2nd. Now I just need to not die before September 20th.

Had the same experience with Sum 41, but with All Killer No Filler - thought that was their first one until I saw Half Hour of Power at FYE.

Think it’s a pretty common thing back when we were younger - especially pre-Spotify / Apple Music.

Sum 41 and Green Day are incredibly different in this scenario. Green Day would fit if we were discussing Dookie and people not knowing about 1039 Smooth or Kerplunk.

  9. I think it makes total sense why someone who doesn’t know any better would assume that American Idiot is GD’s first (or only) album at the time it came out.

You think a non fan would has any idea Insomniac and Nimrod exists? Very very very doubtful.

Good Riddance is a song that everyone knows. So, yes, they “should” be aware of their existence. Plus Dookie was HUGE.

  11. Being familiar with a song that’s all over the radio is different than knowing an album though. A lot of people exclusively listen to the radio and don’t buy albums. I always forget about Nimrod’s existence and I’m sort of a fan of the band. Shrug.

Dookie was huge ten years before American Idiot came out. It brought a lot of new fans who probably don't even remember 1994. I was 13 when American Idiot was released and, well, I knew Basket Case before, but that was probably it.

Ahhh yes...My favorite album by them. Followed by Warning. Nimrod will forever remind me of Varsity Blues.

I remember in middle school when Enema came out and WMAA and ATSM were dominating tv and radio. At the time, Dammit was all over the radio too and my friend loved the song. So he knew those three songs then and had his mom buy him Enema from KMART since Walmart sold the edited version. I remember him being so surprised that Dammit wasn't on it and discovered Dude Ranch shortly after. He was then obsessed with Dude Ranch all of middle school lol.

Also remember in 2005 when a friend's dad was OBSESSED with American Idiot. He also had no idea Green Day had other albums. That was an interesting conversation. Later on found out he knew some songs from Dookie, didn't realize it was Green Day, and didn't like any of the other stuff the band had put out before AI.

Nimrod is special for me, it was the first CD of theirs I got and I listened to it religiously. Platypus blew my 12 year old brain.

‘94 was huge for punk with Green Day’s Dookie and The Offspring’s Smash.

It was all sort of on the tail of Nirvana pushing open new doors (‘91) and with Kurt’s in death (‘94) people were looking for new bands to listen to. It really made way for punk in the more mainstream channels (more people caught on to Epitaph as a result of Smash) and eventually bands including Blink (who got an opportunity to tour with Epitaph bands like Pennywise), and be a huge part of the pop punk sub genre.

There are really so cool documentary pieces posted online with interviews by lots of band members talking about what was happening before in punk, DIY, and how things evolved and the causes.

Wife and I are doing a bunch of deep cleaning around the house. We found a box marked ‘Blink-182’ in the office closet. It’s hers from years ago

I present to you old blink shirts from the EOTS- Untitled era.

And as a bonus, an OG BLINK rabbit plushie, as well as (and I’m not kidding) her collage notebook from when she was a young teenager where she cut out articles/pictures/anything blink and pasted them in a notebook circa late 90s/early 2000s (Incase you ever think we go too far on here)
