    This was soooo good.

-I love QT version of LA/Hollywood. It’s a big part of his movies, and is even more interesting here with the time period.

    - Ms. Hawke steals another summer hit. I want her in everything.

-The scene at the ranch was so unsettling.

    -Loved the IB callback

    -No SLJ!?

    - So glad they didn’t kill Tate, and the ending worked really well I think.

I feel like the negative comparisons between the ending of this and Basterds are overstated. Sure, both alter history but you know at least 3/4 through IG that it is a work of fiction. You don’t know what’s going to happen until they are in Rick’s house, and even then it is a shock

I rewatched last night. I don’t know if I’d change a frame. The opening scene into the Basterds scene is all-time.

The actor who played Tex was creepy af, and I didn’t know he was actually a person who committed the murders

He committed all of them if I remember correctly (with the help of others). There are no words to describe him.

Rewatched it just now, deeply underappreciated that film when it came out.

love that Pitt's character's cover is an Italian-American stuntman.

Several of the smaller theaters around here have actually ADDED screenings for the second weekend, something I don't think I've ever seen before.

A lot of the criticism about the idea that Leo is the ~last movie star~ or whatever seems to misread what the initial thesis was. Yeah Robert Downey Jr and Lupita Nyong’o are movie stars but they aren’t exactly box office draws, you can’t look at Avengers vs Once Upon a Time and compare their box office success. Same goes for like, the Revenant and Star Wars. The second article brings up Jessica Chastain as being “of an equal draw in my opinion” and that’s... just not true. She’s great, and deserves acclaim, but the claim that Leo is a box office draw stems from the fact that his movies consistently perform well even if he’s playing a grizzled man in the snow by himself or an alcoholic 60s movie star. Trying to undercut his draw by saying that he’s working with Tarantino ignores that Tarantino famously was not a successful director at the box office until he started working with Leo, and it’s not like a Scorsese movie is not a guaranteed smash at the box office, really his films do best when Leo is fronting them.

Of course there are other movie stars who draw audiences. Denzel, Tom Cruise, and Tom Hanks are of a similar generation to Leo and came from the same model. Movie stars coming up now are in a different climate and it’s worth examining without pretending that things that aren’t true are true.

None of this is to say he’s a good person or that his movies are better or worse than other people’s, which that Mary Sue piece seems caught on. It’s a reality that few actors consistently make like $50-100 million with non-superhero/franchises

Amending that Basterds did better than I remember for Tarantino, but again he was working with Brad Pitt, a huge star in his peak, which was atypical for him prior to them (does Bruce Willis in Pulp come closest?)

Debating to go see this again this weekend. I rarely see a movie twice in theaters. But I did end up seeing Django twice when it came out.

11 years ago Time made the bold statement of declaring George Clooney the last movie star... irony being this was him promoting Leatherheads which was a box office bomb

I must be misunderstanding because a lot of people are saying this. Are you saying that the idea that Tate's murder would be averted was a surprise to you? Or just the "exactly how"?

The former just felt abundantly obvious to me. The latter, sure, I guess, but Rick and Cliff killing the hippies was certainly the lead "guess" in the clubhouse..........

I loved the end scene regardless, but I certainly wouldn't say "I didn't know what was going to happen"

Even the “spoiler free” reviews gave too much of the ending away, but I cannot say I guessed that the ending would take place the way it did until Rick came out to yell at the hippies

    OK, fair enough

PS - that scene is great too - Rick with the margarita in the blender screaming at them - so so great
