Don't think I've ever been so jealous. I bet those late '90s shows were something special.

They were insane... the 97 show was my first concert ever at a small shithole called the Nile. I was 11, my cousin took me and told me it would be a blast. I was mesmerized by the fast 2 minute songs and then 3 minutes of dick jokes.... hooked from the start - he bought me Dude Ranch at the merch table and haven't looked back.

Just realized I mis-titled the song "She's Out Her Mind" on iTunes, so my scrobbles are all fucked up. Smh.

WELP THIS WEEK IS ALREADY RUINED!

My thoughts on Tom Delonge: super weird guy that makes music I don't like that I would probably get along with really well. I feel like blink is probably a curse for him. Guy should have got into sci fi early on instead of punk rock.

    Pressure's mountin' but I don't Everest

So, I'm not sure if anybody has posted about it yet, but the 'Day in/Day out' part at the beginning of Los Angeles REALLY reminds me of the 'Day out/Day in' from multiple parts in The Matches' Papercut Skin.

And, The Matches album was ALSO produced by both Feldmann and Hoppus. Coincidence?

I think the truest testament to how completely insane Tom has become is, until the last line, I genuinely didn't know whether this was an excerpt from his novel or him recounting a (allegedly) real story

To be honest I'm still not sure.

Someone should create a fake gmail account like: [email protected] and reach out to Tom with some extraordinary false information and see if he'll bite.

Yeah the only real "miss" as an opener is Ghost on the Dance Floor. I like the song but as an opening track it falls flat.

Yep, they aren't telling him a damn thing that is classified information.

Also, I am not sure why Tom is embarrassed of blink, but is not embarrassed to write to Young Adults.

Each song is great on this album. I really want to do a review of the whole thing, but I want to wait until after the "honeymoon phase" and see how well it's holding up. Neighborhoods took about a month before it became a part of the shuffle.

Also, it seems like a ton of people's vinyl orders are coming in damaged from KRM. They also aren't helping with any refunds or replacements (especially the signed stuff). Kinda crappy. Any idea of who to reach out to in the blink camp?

Almost two weeks after my initial listen, I'm comparing how I felt then to how I feel now. I still don't like the joke songs at all. I still like "Sober" and "She's Out of Her Mind" a lot, super poppy and great, and on the more serious side I still like "Home is Such a Lonely Place" and "San Diego" a lot. "Teenage Satellites" has really grown on me, I've come to like it a lot, and I like "Bored to Death" a lot more now than I had even upon initial release. I like "Cynical" too but wouldn't put it over any pre-breakup opener, personally.

Still don't care for "Rabbit Hole". I like "No Future" less than I did then, the staggered, single syllable emphasis vocals in the hook bother me. It is really catchy, it just grates on me a little bit, especially since "Sober" is a much better song that repeats the hook melody with "na na"s. "Kings of the Weekend" might be my least favorite song on here. It's not bad, but it's such a disposable song and blink has written way better songs about having fun with a lot more personality before, I'd take "Reckless Abandon" or "Anthem" over it any day. "Left Alone" is good.

I find "California" pleasing to listen to sonically, but it leans a little hard into super cheesy, earnest territory that's a bit much for me, even though I usually like that stuff, and I really take issue with the "Living in the perfect weather/spending time inside together" line, it's bad and it takes me out of a song I otherwise enjoy.

If they had cut "No Future", "Rabbit Hole", "Kings of the Weekend" and the joke songs, the album would feel a lot more focused and it wouldn't have any low points for me. Even though I don't have a super high opinion of "Los Angeles", I appreciate its aggressive nature amidst otherwise really light/poppy/tender stuff.

    Something like
    1. Cynical
    2. Bored to Death
    3. She's Out of Her Mind
    4. Los Angeles
    5. Sober
    6. Home is Such a Lonely Place
    7. Teenage Satellites
    8. Left Alone
    9. San Diego
    10. The Only Thing That Matters
    11. California

I'd be really happy with. Not that I take that much issue with the songs I don't like, they aren't really bad. It's not that different from Enema or TOYPAJ, which are full of fun, great, super polished songs but both also have songs that, if I heard for the first time today, I'd do without ("Mutt", "Give Me One Good Reason"). Really fun pop punk. It's not one of the best albums of the year, but it's blink-182 that does that style of blink-182 really, really well. If I could divorce myself from the nostalgia of Dude Ranch, Enema, and TOYPAJ, I'd maybe, maybe say this was better than one or two or all of them. But I can't do that.

Even though this album isn't as good as a lot of the stuff that's come out this year, I will definitely be spinning it a ton. Probably more than some of my favorites like Radiohead or Bowie, just because it's blink and I love blink so fucking much. I'm very happy for Mark and Travis, and it kind of just hit me today how weird it is that Matt Skiba is in blink-182 and they just released a really solid album that's selling really well. I hope the success continues, I'm really happy for them.

Good point. I feel like based on his prior comments that he's embarassed of blink because he feels like he's outgrown singing about high school romance and doing stupid things while he was growing up. And those types of songs aren't something Bono would ever write.

Right, but would Bono co-author novels aimed at 14 year olds?

Or would Bono sing about golden showers in a golden state? Or 16 year olds and wicker baskets? Or how about kids constantly rising up against some unknown thing and bombs and aliens and stuff

That's just Tom showing the Tombots he's still punk rock and he was writing blink demos and that song in no way was written in the 5 minutes after he announced his solo demo album.
