Yeah this or Historical Conquests or Sermon are good starters.

Definitely wouldn't suggest starting with this one

Historical Conquests has always been my go-to recommendation for a starting place. Then The Animal Years and So Runs The World Away. (I’m not as big a fan of everything after those albums although they have their bright spots.)

  4. I heard like 60% of it at the show last night so it seems the logical choice, will move to The Historical Conquests of... from there I think.

After a few listens, I think it's good, it just feels a little thin

I feel like Josh is kind of an “every other album” artist for me. Adored the last one and Sermon on the Rocks. Less into this and Gathering.

Yeah, this is how I feel after a few listens. It's pleasant though, and there are a handful of songs that I enjoy.

Not immediately a favorite Ritter favorite but I’m digging it overall.

I know he's said that he was purposefully trying something different with this album, but I would be lying if I said it wasn't throwing me off having such a short Josh Ritter album with no lyrically dense songs, or songs that tell a story. I suppose these songs do tell stories, but they're ephemeral, like half-remembered dreams. I am definitely appreciating it more after a handful more listens. The first few times through it was really hard not to keep anticipating typical Josh Ritter songs because I am such a big fan of his, and he's definitely covering new ground here.

    I think that's a pretty good assessment.

I wonder how these songs will play live. I love going to his shows cause there’s this infectious energy he has, but most of the tracks on this latest feel too… dreamy?… to be enjoyed in that kind of setting.

That being said, not my favorite album of Josh’s, but still digging it and liking it more with each listen.

Bought an LP and listened through the soundcloud stream. Already liking it way better than the last release.

Yeah I've been streaming it. Good songs but not as much of an "album" in the way that Josh Ritter albums are usually so well composed, structured, and built out sonically and thematically. He called it a "mini album" of songs that he's had for a while.
