Uplifting.

 

Just learned about this. What a crock of shit.

The thing that annoys me most about the whole "they'll change our culture" argument is how it presumes that America has a centralized culture of any kind. It feeds back into that whole REAL America thing that the Tea Party rose up on, as if rural farming and factory workers are more American than working in an office in a city. America's literally the experiment of trying to create a shared, stronger nation-state made of disparate cultures and people. Cultural assimilation to the US isn't about conforming, it's about understanding and living out the founding ideal of "all people are created equal" (despite how we actually treat people in this country) by adding your life to the country.
