Darkside sounds pretty cool ! My issue though is Mark has said the band has been experimenting but I haven't heard it in these songs.

Sonically this might be the best thing NuBlink has put out but I suspect the lyrics will be predictably terrible. Unironic usage of the term "dark side" just doesn't work outside of Star Wars.

All 3 songs that have been released are vastly different from one another.

  4. I'm expecting more electronic elements in some songs, sort of like Simple Creatures-ish. I'm also assuming they're releasing the most radio-friendly/catchy songs and would save the more "experimental" songs for the album.

When they were on Beats1 Matt or someone said it out loud and pronounced it kinda like BAH-G-MEER

I hope they didn't go with that album title though.

  6. Travis and Mark said somewhere it was pronounced "bow-meer" (the J is silent.) Also, no thanks.

I mean sure, but it also doesn't change the fact they are pretty generic.

I'd have to imagine the whole song will leak before Friday.

Got a good simple catchy chorus and a nice kinda driving drumbeat. Could be a candidate for radio, Happy Days has a pretty busy wordy chorus

I definitely could see Darkside being a single.

And restrained Mark vocals with a screamy Matt chorus is the best suited song so far for them live. They could kill this one for a late night performance

I wonder who produced the song.

  13. I still don't think people understoodd what Mark was saying when he said "experimental" cause it keeps getting brought up. The quotes not taken out of context make total sense with everything we've heard.

So did Mark mean that each song will sound fairly different? As opposed to a generally experimental/alternative sounding album. Cos I'm hearing different sounding songs all with very pop vibes.

  16. "It’s darker in theme and tone. If you like ‘California’ to ‘Enema Of The State’ then this album is more like the untitled record where we are trying to experiment more: trying to experiment more, trying different sounds, and trying to expand upon what people think Blink 182 is.”

He expands elsewhere about how they tried different ways of starting songs in the studio. Different techniques for building the song. The experimentation of trying new things, or things different than they did in the past, doesn't mean a song is gonna sound like 22, A Million. It could just mean they started writing a song using an electronic beat and that ended up turning into a song. It also doesn't mean that the experimentation worked out how they wanted, such as "GD," which was clearly experimentation and they decided to cut a big part of it. He's saying the band wants to experiment more in writing their music, and trying different sounds, not necessarily meaning the songs themselves are going to sound experimental.

I feel like they started communicating concrete ideas about the album before they really hit their stride in the studio and now they are relating the new music back to those original quotes because they keep getting asked about them in interviews. To me, these new songs sound way more like that Steve Aoki single or even Travis's hip hop / radio collaborations. If they would have said something along the lines of "We are getting tons of fresh new ideas from all of our collabs and other projects, expect the new music to build off of that energy." Rather than saying the new album will be experimental like Untitled it wouldn't have been so confusing to people.

There's nothing wrong or bad about these songs I just think using the word experimental, usually synonymous with untitled, set the expectations for some hardcore fans to be confused when BIOMY and HD came out. I can totally get on board when Mark says things like "This is exactly what Blink in 2019 should sound like." I think the songs are great and I am really excited to hear the full album front to back, and the extra music to follow. I think when everything is said and done this will be a super interesting chapter creatively for Blink. On the front end it has been really meandering to follow and hard grasp exactly what is going on and what to expect.

  18. I don't think it's confusing if you read his quotes in context  that’s all I’m saying, i think the added context shows what he was getting at.

For those who ordered When Your Heart Stops Beating through Amazon, just got an email saying arrival date is around August 2, marking this the first time ever SRC beat Amazon.

    Better than you, sorry

Clip sounds like everything else on California. I'm just not feeling blink. I liked maybe 3 songs on california (Los Angeles, hisalp, and Bottom of the ocean). Not expecting much from this album but I'll def check it out

I don't know, I feel like I've come to expect that "experimental" doesn't really mean the same thing from this band the way it would for some other acts. I took it more as they don't have a specific sound for this album so they are just writing whatever they feel like and if it works it works. Whereas with California, they very clearly knew they were going to write a throwback pop-punk blink record.

Doesn't mean there won't be similar sounding stuff on this album and it doesn't mean they're specifically writing songs that sound different than California either. They're just writing what they write and incorporating outside people and seeing how it comes out.

  22. There's a difference between a song sounding "experimental" and a band "experimenting" while creating a song. I think people think they're the same, but they're not, and that's the disconnect.

  23. Totally makes sense.

It doesn't have to be sung backwards and put through a tape machine and looped backwards so it sounds like it's forward again. But them experimenting with approaches to songwriting and whatnot, that's them experimenting, but not necessarily being experimental.

    I get it.

I'm pretty psyched for a September release. I can easily declare that my favorite month
