Well, I had my girlfriend listen to the new album tonight. Keep in mind, she's a Tom fan girl. I was always a fan of Mark. She loved Tom. We listened to the entire album on the way home this evening.

Her response? She found Matt's voice to be "pretty." She also loved San Diego and busted out laughing at Brohemian Rhapsody.

She definitely left me wondering whether she really enjoyed the album or not... Well, later tonight I caught her googling Matt Skiba. Yeah, I think she found her new Tom. Lol

I want them to open with cynical and go right into feeling this, that would be ideal for me. As for other California songs I want live; SOOHM, Sober, YTOTM, No Future and of course they'll play BTD. As much as I want more, realistically they will still play a lot of the older stuff; and I'm actually ok with that I want to hear songs like Ft, Not now, Dysentary, Etc with Skiba I haven't heard him with those songs yet lol

 

After hearing Skiba on All the Small Things, the man can do no wrong in my book. Would love to hear him cover any Tom song.

 

Except any of the songs from Neighborhoods.....because...you know.

 

I think Skiba actually would sound good on natives or after midnight or even if she falls.

 

I was trying to think what songs I'd ever want to hear him do from that and that's about it lol.

 

They did rehearse Wishing Well. I think Skiba could pull that one off too. But mainly those first three.

 

My roommate randomly texted me that he was at the cubs game right after I saw that Mark and Matt were. He had no idea, so I told him they were there and they were sitting in roughly the same area. He went over and talked to them for a bit and said they were super nice.

 

That's so awesome. I know a girl who was up there as well and posted a photo on Instagram of the sign out front. Then a minute later, Mark posted his saying "Very honored to be the first person to ever take this photo". I almost told her to grab me an autograph.

 

Listened once on Friday and have been able to spend time with it today. I really enjoy it overall. Makes me pumped for the tour! Early favorites in no order:

The only song I skip is No Future. I seem to be in the minority on that one as lots of people are digging it. The only other song that has a sense of filler to me is Teenage Satellites.

I wish the joke songs were fully fleshed out full songs. Oh well.

 

Still no HQ version of the Japan bonus track?! Damn lol

 

Hopefully sometime this week after someone receives a copy in the mail. The holidays in the US/Canada this weekend could have slowed it down.

 

I'm still waiting on my pre order of the vinyl bundle because of the holidays. It's showing up tomorrow though so it's almost over. I wonder if the song will appear on the EP later this year...

 

An acoustic version would be perfect.

 

It's awesome and the chords match up with Chapter XII too.

Works great as Chapter XIII prelude !

 

Listened to some select songs on The Mark Tom and Travis show this weekend. Forgot that those are the best versions of Dude Ranch songs that are out there.

Also made me miss Enema/TOYPAJ-era Tom.

 

Sober is such a jam.

Overall the album is great. Only songs I don't dig that much are Los Angeles and Left Alone.

 

I love Sober, too, but the mix on this song is so awful. The same with Built This Pool.
The rest is perfect.

 

Apparently "San Diego" is in-part about Tom and Feldmann made Mark write it

 

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but didn't they say "Hey I'm Sorry" was a salvaged version of a song from the pre-Feldmann writing sessions? I thought they said that was the only song they didn't scrap. If so, it makes me way happier about how the album turned out. I like that b-side, but I think if the whole album sounded closer to that song, the record would have been more similar to everything we've gotten from Mark in recent years.

 

Yes, I remember that being discussed on the Himynameismark podcast with Feldmann.

Also... "Barker revealed earlier this year that he and Delonge are still friends and in a new chat with Rock Zone Mag (viaAlternative Nation), he said the possibility of Delonge re-joining the band is on the cards."
