i'm writing a book, leave me alone.

i used to be a big believer in destiny and soul mates and that stuff. ah, middle school was a fun time. i was / am a huge Boy Meets World fan and used that as my blue print to life for probably far too long, searching in vain for my own Topanga. i remember i'd meet girls that liked the same movies / music / books as me and think, "it's a sign! she's the one!" and then get real unhappy / depressed when it didn't work out she'd turn out to be just as idiotic / bland as everyone else.

last week there was a new girl at work that i met and found out we had very similar interests. i did nothing / will do nothing (leaving that job anyway) with her because it doesn't matter if your interests are the same. those things don't make/break a relationship.

    i am officially an adult.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

They might not make it, but they can certainly break it. I find it really hard to properly fall for someone who doesn't share at least some of my main interests.

oh i definitely agree. there has to be some overlap / ven diagram business going on, but when i was younger i used to think, "okay, i love french toast, she loves french toast, we're set!"

i'm pissed that life has turned out to be more complicated than that.

I'm still hoping for a romcom meet cute and the perfect "how I met your mother story", part of my hesitance for online dating is that isn't a very good story for the grandkids

  8. What chase said. By the time or having grandkids I'm sure online dating will be more "norm"

For me there are "opposites" that are potentially a deal breaker because I feel like I cannot connect with them. One being music taste. If we both don't have one genre in common it's not gonna work. I can't stand listening to hip hop, rap and raegge. And there are a few traits that I'll be like nope because it will just piss me off

We don't need to like the same music or exact same interests I just need them to not be a jerk about it. I have no time for men who talk down to me.

Never have believed in soul mates. Some ppl are more compatible than others and you try to make it work. I did used to always want a bf for cute scenarios. Like at Disneyland I'd fantasize about having a bf to hold my hand and do stuff with, or during holidays I'd imagine celebrating with a bf, or ice skating with one or whatever. I was always imagining being cute with a bf and how it'd be better that way. I don't do that anymore tho and I'm glad. It just made me feel sad and lonely and had unrealistic expectations. Dumb made for TV rom coms

almost every gf i've ever had has never really been into holding hands or small thoughtful gestures / actions like that. it drives me nuts because (again, going back to Boy Meets World) that's how i thought relationships should be, or at least they should contain those activities / actions. but nope, i always seem to find the girls that don't like / want those things.

    sometimes life is never fair.

also, restarted my match account just to quickly see who was around locally and still absolutely devoid of all quality choices. oh well, sitting home alone reading every night has been fine for the last five years, what's another five decades?

    !!!!

Where you find these women? I haven't met anyone who was that "un-affectionate" to full extent. At best, it is no hand holding which I get since I'm not into it.

I'm the most unaffectionate woman in the entire world. ur prayers have been answered! I kinda just want an attractive companion who will go to shows and movies and eat food with me while also not being up in my business which I guess would be a fwb but that's not really my scene either cause the dumb concept of monogamy has been hammered into me soooo it is what it is lol

The most important question: what type of food / restaurants?

Thai is my fave! And pasta! I don't eat meat so admittedly my options are limited but I can usually find food anywhere so I'm not too high maintenance! I need to try pho still also. tbh I just really really like food.

It was kinda informal and semi short notice but still. She said a friend invited her over for dinner and drinks, which to me feels like bailing

We'll see what she does going forward

    This sucks

I remembered when I first moved to the city I'm in now that I knew no one and nothing and picked random restaurants off Yelp to eat at alone. Was a lot of fun.

It's irritating how hard it is to find someone to eat with sometimes so I don't feel like a doofus always being the guy alone at the table while the entire rest of the establishment is there with friends or significant others.
