No. The NHL is fun to watch because there is parity. This type of system doesn't give smaller market teams a chance in free agency.

Apparently two teams have sent Marner offer sheets that he's declined because he didn't like the destination so he rejected them, but that's according to The Hockey News and we should all take that with a boulder of salt

 

It's an obvious side deal where he's getting a new contract on Jan 1st. Kind of a mediocre player to circumvent the cap with but maybe Thornton wants more money on his next deal.
