Taylor Swift - Lover (August 23, 2019) Album • Page 39

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by Garrett, Apr 25, 2019.

  1. The deal itself may have been impersonal and not had to do with gender but the PR campaign revolving around delegitimizing her claims since has everything to do with gender.

It's also wild how many female artists are speaking up about their negative SB experiences. But I'm sure it's coincidental.

Everyone knows what Scott did was completely legal. Stop arguing that point, we all work or play in this industry.

But when a man who gives interviews clearly showing that he is jaded about a young woman's success and how it defines him, and then that same man sells his company to another man with a vested interest in hampering said young woman's success...it's very clear that the motivation was personal. I don't believe for one second that Scooter wasthe highest bidder when you consider his networth and the amount of industry players who would want to own Taylor's back catalog. Sometimes...men are just shitty! Because at the end of the day, there's nothing a powerful man hates more than a powerful woman! Especially in the music industry!

I hope Taylor goes nuclear and tells all. Then we'll see what a "nice" guy Scott is. There are so many rumors that her contract with BMR included a morality clause and didn't allow her to be politically vocal. Not to mention him donating to the Tennessee candidate she didn't endorse. Tell us who he is!

My message isn't getting through very well, so I'm going to put it in the bluntest terms I can. I don't care if your experience with Scott was positive. Abusive people can be incredibly charming and personable on the surface. I've seen overwhelming evidence that suggests Scott is, at the very least, shady, manipulative, greedy, and self-serving. The amount and severity of the evidence I have seen against Scott outweighs your personal experience to me.

Its strange to me how people we’re upset about her being bullied, then bully people online. Weren’t fans of hers bullying Noah Gundersen about having the same album title and release date just a couple weeks ago?

Honestly, since no one seems to be putting in any creative input here and just trying to put down people with different input, since she has an album called Lover coming out soon, she should make a short companion EP called Fighter, and produce a few songs to vent her frustrations as an artist.

And if Scott paid me to defend him online I’d be happy because this week I’d be making extra money.

That’s fair. I do think all information needs to be taken into account though. Have other artists on his label had similar issues?

No one is bullying you. You are a not a victim of anything in here. Your "different" input is minimizing the struggles of a female artist working against a patriarchal and manipulative industry as well as downplaying a serious issue in the industry that affects nearly all working musicians.

I still don't understand how this is a real person arguing this shit

I love that you get called out in a very calculated and honestly, way too nice of a manner and your response is "OH BUT SOME OF HER FANS BULLIED A GUY!" like, completely missing the point.

  10. A good thing to do if you’re in a room where everyone seems to be treating you like an asshole is to take even one millisecond and ask yourself why that may be

But sure keep digging in with the bootlickin bullshit

At a net worth of $320+, Taylor could have left BM at the end of her contract and started her own label that provides more to artists and more fair contracts.

That’s where the revolution starts. It sucks she probably got burned a bit, but she has still come out ahead. She has the str power to change things that could be a positive impact to future generations if she wants.

I know people hate Fat Mike, but he and Erin only sign artists to one album record deals so they can choose to stay or go depending on their experience.

Taylor’s Dad was also involved in the label too. Are they on good terms?

Considering Scott made more than his fair share on his ROI with Taylor, including BMR becoming anything beyond an indie country label, I think he should cede control of the masters to Taylor for a fair price instead of giving it to a shithead. Also, your opinions are pure bootlicking, victim-blaming dogshit. My opinion.

This isn't about Taylor's success or wealth. No one is claiming that this hurt her popularity or significantly curtailed her income. It's about principle, and it's about giving musicians the ability to be in control of the art they create. It's simple, actually.

EDIT: It's also about powerful, manipulative men purposefully seeking to hurt a powerful woman.
We aren't talking about Taylor's dad. We're talking about Scott and Scooter.

I wish artists had more control. That’s why I mentioned Fat Wreck Chords.

I eat people need start up money and contacts, but I’d rather artists try and control their destiny like Brett from Bad Religion did with starting Epitaph, and Andy and Jeremiah did with Favorite Gentlemen.

There’s 3 examples of artists starting their own labels, but we could all list more. FBR, got huge and sold for profit. That to me is empowering.

Sarah McLachlan has to start her own Festivals Tour, Lilith Fair, because women weren’t getting good headlining (and therefore fair paying) shows.

Sometimes, when the system sucks, you have to invent your own system.

  18. Since I'm starting to suspect I'm either blocked (lol), being deliberately ignored or am a ghost hallucinating even participating in all this, I just want to say:

Idc if this person is just intentionally ignoring the women contributing to this conversation or blocked us (and interestingly enough, not the men who are being far more harsh than we are) for calling them out on repeatedly being obtuse about this stuff: misogyny is one helluva drug.

.K., do you see that this personal story about Scott Borchetta being cool to the entire crew on the shoot you are talking about is still anecdotal and a severely limited view of him and how he may or may not treat other people, even though it involves hundreds (?) of other people and not just you and him grabbing a beer at a bar in Nashville…?

Honestly, it is about as helpful and relevant to this conversation as it was helpful and relevant to Louis CK's victims when Sarah Silverman came out and said he used to jerk off in front of her too but she thought it was funny or whatever garbage it was she said early on.

You personally having a nice experience or interaction with someone does not negate what they may have done to someone else or how they treated others. There are lots of people Bill Cosby didn't rape. Continually interjecting this type of stuff into these conversations only muddies the waters, and honestly is a huge historical defense factor that many offenders rely on and have been able to hide behind and use to keep their standing in culture and society while continuing to do atrocious things to other people without facing any repercussions, legal or otherwise.

Nobody is saying it was a bad business move to obtain the rights to Taylor Swift's catalog of music for $300 million. Her Reputation tour alone is the highest grossing US Tour ever and earned pretty close to that number in 6 months and only 38 dates. That's not even mentioning the other very successful artists wrapped up in this deal, like Sheryl Crow, Florida Georgia Line and Lady Antebellum.

I think how she insisted that UMG share any profits from it's sale of Spotify shares with the artists, specifically the non-recoupable clause part, was more helpful and to more other artists than starting her own label would have been, but that is just conjecture on my part.
