    are we having fun yet?

i don't want to say much, just to avoid spoilers... but i think ultimately, it just wasn't for me. i could see a certain crowd being way into it, just not my thing.

Might see Purge: Election Year this weekend. I liked Anarchy over the original. Right now it's at 68% on RT.

Yeah I've been looking forward to that. Hoping for lots of heavy handed topical commentary

From reviews I've skimmed, that seems to be the main focus but just subtle enough to not be too preachy

Purge was great, about as good as the first sequel. And holy crap during the entire movie I thought that was Anthony Michael Hall playing the head mercenary guy but just found out it was someone else, haha

Going to see The Purge: Election Year tonight. Got decent reviews. Enjoyed the second a lot more than the first.

Oh, I forgot to add that about 10 minutes into The Purge screening, a group of people entered the theater including a mom and her one year old child and sat in the same row as me. Surprisingly, the kid was pretty quiet during the whole film.

I liked it quite a bit. More than the second even. Looks like there will be (at least) one more.

The video game podcast/channel I follow one of the guys is raving about it. Where did you see it? Is it in theaters in the US?

Why do people bring their small children to an R-rated movie? Babysitters, yo.

I mentioned this in the AP.net horror thread, but when I went to go see Shutter Island, there were a group of young girls sitting in the theater and next to one of them was a mobile baby carriage. When I sat behind them, I saw that the baby in question was in fact fake (yet more realistic looking than the one in American Sniper). I only assumed the girl was enrolled in some type of parenting class and was taking care of a realistic baby (I guess she couldn't leave it home or in the car). About half way through the movie, the fake baby started crying and the whole theater could hear it. She got up, took the baby out of the theater and never returned. It was certainly one of the most odd experiences for me at the movies.

I mean I never had limitations to what I could watch re: horror when i was a kid but they never took me to the movies to annoy everyone else lol.

My parents had no problems with me renting Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th movies as a kid. But the first R-rated horror movie I saw in theaters was Hannibal when I was 17

Pretty much anything that plays on my fear of the dark will hook me in. The trailers seemed to give away a lot so I hope I still like it. I think part of why I liked the Conjuring 2 so much was that I didn't see any trailers for it so all the scares and the main demon thing was a surprise.

  25. The first R-rated movie I saw in theaters was My Bloody Valentine 3D. I was like 14 and a small group of us went with my friend's mom. It was a little weird when the movie opened with a girl running around naked for like five minutes, but I remember having a pretty good time after that.

Yeah I don't want to judge anyone's parenting skills but it's like...how hard is it to just not bring your baby to an R-rated horror film? Idk
