For anyone who really wants to hate/enjoy an imbecile stutter through political ideology:

Fascism Is Far Left, Not Far Right on Political Spectrum - Think Research Expose | Think Research Expose

What's sad is that there is some room for his argument, with regard to the classification of fascism along the left-right paradigm, but he fucks it up so badly. I should have paused for reflection when it cited the author as an award winning journalist whose only post-graduate accreditation was "completed coursework" towards obtaining a Master's in Public Admin from the University of Idaho.

Basically. Tony Blair came in during the 90's and turned labour into a centre right party.

Since then it has been filled with these Blairites that constantly propose the same policies as the conservative but not quite as drastic (Tory-lite)

Corbyn is a throwback to the Tony Benn's and more aligned with traditional labour views. But our government has become so entrenched with the elite getting a fat slice themselves that these Blairites see him as a threat to their existence.

Add to that, there are a section that don't believe he can win. You have half claiming this as a reason to oust him and half genuinely thinking it.

Truth be told. Corbyn was elected by the people with a record number of votes for any party in history

He won a 4 horse race with a 60% landslide. That amounted to more members than the conservative and lib den party have combined.

He's doubled membership and has growth from being nominated for leader by 36mps to now 40 backing him in the nonfidence vote.

He is gaining momentum but the very right wing biased media don't like it (papers owned by Rupert Murdoch et al)

They claim he didn't do enough to remain despite the majority of labour voters choosing to vote remain.

    It's crazy.

So is it reasonable to say Corbyn is like a British Bernie?

    That's what is often said.

I don't think he's quite as progressive or charastmatic and it saddens me Bernie isn't running.

He definitely comes from the same mould with the same basic view that both our countries have gone too capitalist and could do with a bit of socialism to save them from the inevitable ruin they are on.

Plus I should add that I think it's totally badass that he's kind of holding the party hostage from politicians.

Sadly his policies rarely get press coverage so he's just painted as this hippie idealist

He seems more radical. But, it's a different tradition. America never really had a social democratic tradition the way Britain did.

In a very broad sense, yes, ie both have been the main left-wing figures in the mainstream politics of their respective countries more recently, both popular with younger people, both have faced a lot of opposition from the more establishment wings of their respective parties.

Thanks for the insight on Corbyn. It seems to be about how I thought, which is depressing. I was hoping there was more substance to the resistance. The media narrative against him has been shameless-- even more overt and contemptible than the one against Sanders here. And the media biases of this election cycle have been by far the most distressing in my opinion.

i'm writing a book, leave me alone.

random thought before i head to the beach again: can Bill Clinton be made VP? is there a rule / law against a former President becoming Vice President?

    Be my alibi?

I don't know the exact specifics, but because Bill already held Presidential office and already held office for the max term allowed he is eneligible for an office position that would put him in line to become president again.

that makes total sense. completely forgot that in the event the President can't continue in the position then the job obviously falls to the VP. hmm. wonder if a president only served one term if they could be VP later on. i'll have to do some googling when i get home.

  16. Jonesy

    Be my alibi?

Yes they can. If you serve only 1 term, you are eligible for another term even at a "lesser position". Also, there are no rules against a husband and wife serving as President and Vice President on a ticket.

    Noobie

Wouldn't the line of succession just skip over him in that case? Because there are people in the line of succession that are ineligible for the presidency because they're not natural-born citizens, so it just skips over them.

And if you're curious like me and were wondering...

I always see commentators accusing Corbyn of a lack of charisma/energy. I disagree:

It's truly a tragedy that the opposition are trying to force out this man whilst the government will soon be lead by the self professed new Margaret Thatcher or a man who wrote a book on how to dismantle the NHS.

Terror attack in Bangladesh: The victims - CNN.com

So we were planning a family trip there and it would be my first time going back since I was born...guess that's not happening anymore.

Oh and a day before this a bunch of people hacked a Hindu priest to death with machetes in Bangladesh. This is all following the government supposedly cracking down on terrorism by arresting and detaining hundreds of suspected extremists.

And again, haven't seen a single thing about this in social media.

What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer; a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciation of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are, to Him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy-a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of the United States, at this very hour.

Go where you may, search where you will, roam through all the monarchies and despotisms of the Old World, travel through South America, search out every abuse, and when you have found the last, lay your facts by the side of the everyday practices of this nation, and you will say with me, that, for revolting barbarity and shameless hypocrisy, America reigns without a rival.
