ALSO watching Gaycation literally as my sister called me and seeing the violence against queer people around the world, I just cannot imagine reacting any other way except with complete love and acceptance for my child. When there is so much hate in the world and your own parents can't even see through it...I just don't really know how to contend with that. My mother could have used that situation as a teachable moment for her friend and shared her experience with a queer child, how I am the same person I have always been, but instead she enables her to feel hateful? I didn't need another reason to not talk to my mom but here we are.

Thank you Dan, I know we talk shit all the time but I really do appreciate you and your openness about your struggles and how you help people. I will never say another nice thing about you so don't get used to this.
I spent years in therapy and know that talking is the most important thing, and yet still fail to do it because I somehow convince myself every time that I can just deal with it. I'm an idiot like that. But I do appreciate everyone taking the time to stop and share their thoughts and life with me, truly. When people talk shit about it in here I get mad because I literally talk to y'all more than my own parents and it's a community I appreciate having in my life. We aren't all shitposts!

I do feel better having at least vented it out a bit in here.

Thank you all. I talked to him on father's day and he was doing better, the kids and his wife were back home. But that's not the end of the story, I know he needs real help. He was always like me, always holding everything inside and not processing it. The way I ended up getting help was dramatic but at least I got it, I worry so much for him because he is the primary caretaker in the family and it must be so much pressure. He's only 25 years old with two kids and a wife with past mental health issues. I'm looking forward to going down there in a few weeks so I can sit down and have a real conversation with him about all of this. We've always been close so I hope I can reach him.
