I was kinda confused as to why y'all thought The Party Song was sexist, so I read back through the lyrics &... oof

Between "her fake tits were tasteless" and "she'll never be fun" that song has NOT aged well

I mean, at least it's too fast for anyone to understand

 

Also, y'all take those cover videos too damn seriously. I don't think any of those people dislike the song, they're just having fun cause they like blink.

I'm recording a rock cover of 'thank u, next' and believe it or not, I fucking love that song, and I don't think my version is better in any sense of the word. But I recorded it so I could become a better musician/producer and make my discography more accessible.

 

One time, during the TOYPAJ era, my school had an assembly about.... I don’t remember. But at one point the speaker used blink as a negative influence on the youth. They played the first minute or so of The Party Song as their proof. My friends and I sang along to every word and thought it was so stupid for them to bring it up.

I don’t know if she had a point or not, but you’re right, the lyrics have not aged well.

 

The majority of these blink covers are absolutely done with the intent of "oh they'd be better if Tom wrote these" it's not like I hate all covers. Most of these are totally meant as a slap in the face to the band

 

I’d be willing to bet a large number of those people in fact do not like the song

 

I mean the chorus has “some girls try too hard to impress with those things on their chest” so it was always clearly sexist haha

 

Yeah ... I remember being super young and singing along to the chorus because it’s obviously a very fun melody. Looking back to that song a few years ago and others on that album ... yikes.

feeling this: what else can i say other than " banger "?

obvious: even though this isn't as boring as most of their other filler tracks, it's still a filler track

i miss you: we'll have on

violence: the effects on mark's vocals in the verses here are v cool. i've gotta give them major props for experimenting so much on this album and showing genuine growth and maturity (two words not often associated with blink-182)

stockholm syndrome: the best use of call and response between mark and tom from their entire discography. mark sounds fantastic in the choruses. literally my only complaint is that this song isn't long enough

down: my least favourite of the singles from this album. wish there was more to the chorus other than just "down down down down". still a pretty decent track. really love the instrumental outro

the fallen interlude: always felt like this was a completely unnecessary track especially seeing as it doesn't really lead into the next track (go) particularity well at all

go: this band is known for singing songs about their youth but this is probably the only good one they've written on the subject

asthenia: you can hear the beginnings of what tom would go on to do with angels and airwaves on this track (jesus christ imagine if angels and airwaves sounded even 10% as good as this song) which is funny because the guitars in the instrumental bridge part actually remind me of eots/toypaj era blink (but good). this is a very good song

always: easily the best song that blink has ever written (and probably will ever write). it genuinely annoys me that the band that wrote this song is releasing an album called rimjob later this year

easy target: meh. i remember liking this song a lot more when i was younger than i do now. almost feels like it was written to be a prelude for the next track (all of this) with both making reference to a "holly"

all of this: who could have possibly imagined that robert smith would sing on a track with blink-182 after they released toypaj... and that that song would actually be good? gonna have to give the head on the door a spin after i finish listening to this album

here's your letter: wouldn't sound too out of place on take off your pants and jacket... wonder if it was written for that album? not a fan anyway

i'm lost without you: another song that showcases what angels and airwaves could have been. possibly their best album closer?


overall i like 10 out of the 14 tracks on here which is 71% so i give this album 7 stars out of 10 which easily makes this my favourite blink-182 album so far

Aside from a couple of things this is actually more or less spot on for me. (I love Obvious and don't really like Always that much and I'm Sorry is my fave closer.) Good work!

15 yr old me was too immature and honestly kind of sexist because girls wouldn’t date me. I mean sure, I almost never actually asked out any girls, but somehow it was all their fault and they like all the mean guys.

Fuck, I was awful back then.

Yeah, when I was in middle school I was just kinda scared of girls, and felt like they were some sort of alien species.

Then suddenly I realized maybe the reason I have no friends is because I don't fit in with the dumb guys at my school and then I realized-- maybe I should actually try talking to girls! And as it turned out, women are wondeful people and now comprise the majority of my friends.

I'm really glad I didn't end up going further down the rabbit hole and becoming an incel dumbass or some shit.
