Felt like it took out of gameplay way too much, for like 5 second cutscenes.

I am interested though.

 

I've lived in the UK for 25 years, and I've heard the word "bloke" more in this trailer than ever before lol

 

I donno. It would be really really tricky to pull off right. But I could see them getting us emotionally invested in the city/people rather than individual characters. Could do some really good stuff with getting people to weigh the value of a human life. But be very easy for them to fuck it up.

 

Literally no one under 50 says bloke lol

But what kind of weighing will that be when everyone you recruit is ultimately disposable/replaceable?

 

You could tell he waited for a clap there at the “play as anyone” part and the crowd was very unamused

 

You make is so that they are only "ultimately disposable/replaceable" if you view it through a "win at all costs" lens.

 

BUT IT'S NOT POLITICAL GUYS WE SWEAR

 

I'd try this once it goes on sale

 

You can write those kinds of scenarios all you want but the very mechanics that the game is built on undermine that sort of nuance.

 

Can't wait to see what happens when one psycho out there somewhere recruits every NPC in the city lol

OMG IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY THE GAME?!?!?!

 

I disagree. It seems to me the game lets you tell your own story.

Wanna treat people as disposable cogs in a greater machine that you use and throw away? You can. Wanna build a deeper connection with your characters so their eventual death feels all the more impactful? You can.

Success will come down to how well it makes you consider the morality of those choices. Stuff like darkest dungeon shows it can be done well, its just very tricky.

If you can separate the mechanics from the from the content more power to you. It's going to be practically impossible for them to pull this off when everyone will always have in the backs of their minds the knowledge that everyone you're playing is a procedurally-generated faceless NPC from whatever backstory and personality the game generates for them.

 

So thought they were gonna pull a South Park and make an always Sunny game

 

As much as I love Rob, spending all that time announcing a tv show for Apple TV also falls under this.

 

I thought that was Andy Samberg for a second and I got hyped

 

Is Watch Dogs 1 worth playing? I've had it in my library for almost a year and haven't touched it yet. New game looks interesting.

 

Like I said, its hard to do. But there have been other games that have experimented with building mortality into the mechanics. So its definitely not an impossible thing to do.
