I would rather just listen to Untitled 95% of the time I get in the mood suited for this though

 

California is certainly much better than neighborhoods, if it wasn’t for this thread I’d often forget neighborhoods exists. That 96 score from Thomas tho will always be legendary!

 

Neighborhoods, Untitled and Dogs Eating Dogs are my favorite blink releases. I think Box Car Racer, + 44 and a couple AVA releases stand right up there with them.

 

Yeah I think things sound different in person. Most blink live vids I've watched since like 2009 sound p bad with Tom OR Matt but as long as the people there enjoy it I don't think it's important. Haha

I had When I Was Young on my playlist at one point but it may as well have just been a Mark/Travis feature on an AVA album. It would be the best AVA song if classified as such lol

Just doesn't fit as blink for me though I like it

I’m not sure I’ve listened to California since 2017, maybe even 2016. I might do a track by track review later.

 

Heart’s All Gone is a decent song with absolutely horrific production. Absolutely kills it for me. Ridiculously poor.

i haven't listened to califonia since 2016. here's my review:

cynical: literally straight from the intro of this song it's obvious that this album is going to be better than neighborhoods. production wise this is the best blink have ever sounded. promising start to the album

bored to death: i know this is lazy and hack but my god this song bores me to death. reminds me of the worst tracks from that +44 album. i finally get why people talk about the "woahhhh's" on california so much

she's out of her mind: funnily enough i think the woah's actually work on the chorus here? fun track. i like it

los angeles: i genuinely don't remember ever hearing this bad song before but i think they should have named it bored to death pt.2

sober: second boring track in a row. the claps in the first pre-chorus make it sound like the song is building towards something big and then the chorus is literally just "na na na na na na na" lmao. terrible

built this pool: "naked dudes! haha!"

no future: another fun track. way to repetitive, though. they really went all out on the "na na na's" on this album, huh?

home is such a lonely place: off the top of my head i can't think of another blink track that has an acoustic guitar. let's hope this is the last

kings of the weekend: not a bad track. not a good one either. feels weird hearing a bunch of middle aged men talking about having no control and raging on a friday night

teenage satellites: boring. second track in a row where i feel like i have to remind these guys that they're in their mid 40's...

left alone: this is the definition of a filler track

rabbit hole: third boring track in a row lmao. the "fucking" in the "i won't go down this fucking rabbit hole" sounds like it was thrown in to make the song sound more edgy. cool!!

san diego: make that four boring tracks in a row. damn. this is really turning into a slog

the only thing that matters: okay this is easily one of my favourite tracks on here. fun track that doesn't take itself too seriously. i want more songs like this from blink

california: okay we're back to the bad and boring songs. cool. lmao at the bridge literally being "na na na na na na na woah woah woah"

brohemian rhapsody: a 44 year old man thought that this song was funny and also a good album closer


i liked 5 out of the 16 tracks (just over 31%) on here so i give it 3 out of 10 stars... that's double the score i gave neighborhoods!
