Just listened thru!! Damn so many cool twists and turns. This is what the band needed for their catalog. I love to shuffle all their songs and these are going to really switch things up. A.Js voice makes it still be TDS no matter what changes beneath the vocals, but I love love the experimentation here

It seems there was more focus on each song as it's own entity. Versus say self titled where all the instruments sound the same on every song. Lots of different tones here. Even on the drums. And there is an overall shinyness to everything. It's all glistening and bright.

Prologue into Blinding light and starting over/slow down are the stand outs for me. Holy shit.

Great production and so much to dig and explore. Bravo boys.

    Very reminiscent of Everyone Left
Thank you for this. I had absolutely no idea they did that change and also thought it wasn’t quite right but I notice an immediate difference, it’s seems more... full.

Hmm thats strange. I chose to export all the tracks in a .wav format (very common raw audio format) as to not lose any quality. Then i imported it all into itunes where i added the album art, sorting info, etc. then in doing so, itunes automatically formats the songs to .m4r which is what i provided in dropbox. So in theory, they should play fine on an iphone. Try downloading them to your icloud music library inside itunes. Maybe its a syncing issue.

Hope that helps. If none of that works, i can send you .mp3 exports of the songs tomorrow. Lmk.

Expectations can mess with your mind as a music fan. We all have favorite bands, but there’s a weird sort of contradiction where those favorite bands are also the ones most likely to disappoint us. Hearing a new record from an unfamiliar artist and having it blow the doors off your mind is a wonderful kind of madness, but it’s also impossible to replicate. Loving an album means accumulating baggage with it—the baggage of years and memories and emotions entwined with the songs. When the next album from that same band comes along, it’s easy to feel let down. Even if the record is good—even if it’s great—expecting it to recapture the magic of the first time is a recipe for disappointment. Virtually every band or artist that has ever made a beloved album contends with this cycle eventually, and it’s part of the reason why most bands don’t last very long. It’s also why maybe the only thing more exciting than having that lightning bolt moment with a new band is hearing one of your favorite artists raise the bar, change the game, and shatter every expectation you had of what their music could sound like, circa right now.

@Craig Manning's review is now up!

    Ayyyy, there it is!

Always a pleasure to write about this band, but this album especially. Never expected to love a new album by them this much again.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

think I decided that "Where Were You..." is my favourite on here atm. the melodies remind me of something Ace Enders would do on I Can Make a Mess

Well, I don't really ever listen to leaks but the hype has gotten to me and I'm gonna have to dig in today.

EDIT: First listen isn't fully clicking with me yet, but to echo at least one sentiment, the production is insanely good. The songs sound huge in the best way possible - especially the drums.

There are a ton of great releases out right now that I need to pay attention to but I find myself drawn to this one. Not my favorite of the year, but defintely the one I feel like throwing on the most while grading.

This, Big Thief, Charly Bliss and Arrange
