man oh man I can't stand how saccharine "california" is. sounds like one direction or jonas brothers and the lyrics are god awful.

the rest of the album is good on first listen but I have to go back. she's out of her mind and san diego are dope.

 

Jonas Brothers are really good songwriters. Also, I've listened to all their albums and none of them sound like "California."

 

I think the lyrics are fine. They give me a nice nostalgic feeling, and I'm from Jersey, but I still connect with it.

 

Never liked the Jonas Brothers, but I really enjoy One Direction

 

And I still think Josie is probably one of the top 5 cutest rock songs I've ever heard so I'm not even a huge stickler for lyrics when I know what to expect. I am so glad I got to go back and listen through some of the more offensive atrocities just for that. Haha.

 

She's Out of Her Mind has worse lyrics than California

 

Have we talked about how the chorus for California and the chorus for There's No I in Team are exactly the same

 

Is that a TBS song? If so I will actively try to avoid that comparison

I always laugh at the "whoa-ohoh" Mark shouts at the beggining of Los Angeles because it sounds like something from "Just About Done" to me

 

The beginning of Home is Such a Lonely Place sounds like the intro to a Nature Valley granola bar commercial.

I enjoy when the full band comes in and the distorted guitar, feels like that chorus has a lot of energy

 

Except the chords underneath it are so different that it doesnt matter

 

Just bc be rhythm is the same and even if the melody is note by note the same.. It doesn't matter music is based off of how notes hit the chord.. The chords are different so the parts are different. No I in team is in a minor key California is in a major key.. This is why jazz and blues players will play the same lick over and over again for 32 measures bc they like to show how the notes hit the different chords in the song and how it makes the kick sound unique every time

brohemian rhapsody has the best riff imo, what a shame.

 

least favorites are rabbit hole and teenage satellites.

california is great. so is home. didn't think mark had it in him anymore to write such effective ballads. and lol living in california has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not you can relate to the title track.
