Of sugar and ice I am made

There's some impressions posted from a listening event Nuclear Blast had last month, and there are a couple of interesting details. While it is another 70's prog-influenced record, Mikael does some falsetto vocals. Also, he wrote the Swedish version first, and only decided to also do it in English later on.

  4. Listened to that a couple times over the weekend. I'm digging it.

It's a couple months old, but I'm just listening to the new Exumer and it's pretty good.

This is very good mental reminder to check this record out.

Sick new grindcore release from CHIENS out of France.

If I could take the vocals of Death Angel and put them with the riffs of Exumer it would be a match made in heaven!

The Municipal Waste show still wins for me. :/ Though Immolation/Blood Incantation would be tempting.

For sure the Municipal one will be the one I go to (the line up is just TOO stacked), but it's still a little disappointing. If they were on 3 different nights, I'd probably go to all 3.

I don't care much for deathcore anymore, but seeing Despised Icon (with Devourment) would be cool. If Blood Incantation were for sure opening the Immolation show, it'd be a harder decision, but they dropped their name from the venue's listing, so...

I would probably go see Despised Icon. Are they officially back together?

I guess. I haven't followed them at all in years, but I just saw the listing for the show and was stoked until I realized it was the same day as the other shows.

Not to make this harder for you, but Blood Incantation is playing according to the Facebook event:

If you've never seen them live, they are an experience to behold. They'll probably be leaning heavily on their new album for this run so that makes it even more tempting, in my eyes. I'd be at the Richmond date of this tour in a heartbeat if it wasn't a week before my wife's due date (and we weren't tracking for an early birth based on size, but that's an aside). But I've been lucky to see them three times now so it's not as big a let down.

Yeah, I know they're listed on the official flyer and Facebook event page, and they were listed on the venues website up until a few days ago. Regardless, I did get to see them just a few months ago with Necrot, but they were incredible.

They're not recording anything, but they're back to doing 1-2 tours a year IIRC. Their last major tour of the states was in 2017(?) with Carnifex so this is a bit overdue.

Ah. Gotcha. I haven't heard anything about them being off any of the dates so that's a bit weird.

Side note: All of this show discussion in this thread is making me actively miss living in an A-Market where choosing which shows to go to was an issue. I'm just happy we get Ringworm playing a dive bar here this weekend. *shrug*

Brutal but I've never really gotten this genre. To me its kids with ADD playing music to kids with ADD. Hot take I know but just my two cents!

I wouldn't say that's a hot take at all. Lol. For this kind of grindcore, I get it entirely. It's just something that I've picked up on over time. Do you fuck with older grind bands like Napalm Death or Repulsion?

  22. Nate_Johnson

Interestingly enough I do like some Napalm Death. Although, I prefer Justin Broadrick's other outputs like Jesu, Godflesh and Greymachine.
