When my dad moved here he was not fluent in English and so he only wanted to speak English in the house so he could get better...to our detriment lol. But my mom who is 100% white speaks Spanish fluently and they would sometimes talk in front of us in Spanish and we couldn’t understand and I think that’s the real reason

my dad only spoke English even though his whole family spoke Spanish he never did. My mom however was from Mexico so her first language was Spanish but she barely speaks it unless it’s talking to my grandma since my grandma only speaks Spanish.
